The Software Manager role at Kythera is a broad role, both within the company and customer-facing. It includes software development, project management, and customer relations. The preferred candidate will have a career in software product development.

  • At least 5 years of experience in leading teams, either as a technical lead or as a manager
  • 7+ years experience with software product development
  • At least 5 years of experience as a software developer in C++. Python experience is a plus.
  • Experience in effectively communicating with management and executives
  • Savvy communication skills with customers to manage client relationships
  • Skilled at problem solving by pulling together the right people across departments and facilitating until a solution is in place
  • Advanced experience with Jira, Azure DevOps, and familiarity with CI/CD tools including Jenkins, Git, Sonarqube, Artifactory, etc.
  • Possess strong understanding of project management process and/or project management framework.
  • Demonstrated experience of agile methodology and Scrum and Kanban processes, and principles (facilitating daily scrum sessions as the Scrum Master; facilitating sprint planning; driving the team to meet their incremental deliveries)
  • Effective PM skills including cost management and invoicing. 
  • Plan and coordinate program management process activities including scheduling of meetings and preparation of briefings/presentations.
  • Strong working knowledge of Project Management software tools and have the ability to build work breakdown structures, project schedules, risk registers, and other programmatic artifacts.
  • Excellent analytic and communication skills to help build and document processes, policies, and tools.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with a willingness to assist and support the team with evolving requirements and objectives.
  • Attentive listener, cooperative colleague and is willing to help others to achieve the organization’s goals.

  • BS Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or Business Management discipline

Role & Responsibilities

  • Represent Kythera in customer meetings, proposals and audits
  • Manage the software development process to be efficient and effective
  • Ensure best practices are followed in the software development life cycle
  • Awareness of EAR-restricted software and oversee processes that ensure compliance
  • Serve as Technical Program Manager and/or Scrum Master on one or more projects
  • Schedule and facilitate agile scrum ceremonies including sprint reviews, planning, retrospectives, standups
  • Communicate progress with Product Owners and other stake holders
  • Oversee software releases, announcements, and bug reports
  • Build the software engineering department of the company
  • Work with HR to screen candidates, coordinate and participate in interview panels, present candidates to customers
  • Foster career growth through regular professional mentoring, recommend career paths, provide verbal and written annual reviews. This is particularly important for remote workers
  • Empower software architects and technical leads to create a solid software architecture implemented in best practices processes
  • Facilitate individual career growth of the software team member
  • Utilize the technical leads to steer the health of software development processes in all its forms (processes, interviewing, tools, technologies, etc.)
  • Provide avenues for training, self-learning, and peer-led teaching
  • Act as a Scrum Master and help implement agile methodologies within the project teams for demanding high-profile customers. 
  • Responsible for identifying best practices for repeating and standardizing workflows and providing guidance on how to best approach new technology integration. 
  • Possess strong analytical and project management skills, how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements and lead a team through agile sprints to develop/test/integrate and deploy applications. 
  • Involved in recording and tracking multiple teams' progress through a succession of agile methodologies, and coordination of project schedules.·
