Delta Dental of Iowa invites candidates for Operations Specialist to handle a variety of tasks throughout the Member & Providers Services team that includes data entry, claims processing and handling of incoming customer inquiries for members and providers via the telephone during peak times. Primary responsibility is to process claims and inquiries as well as prepare and submit monthly invoices for approval. Secondary responsibility is to answer incoming member and provider calls on an as needed basis. Use a robust computerized claims system to process claims and document phone calls. Maintain quality service by following policies and procedures. Contribute towards company objectives and results by focusing on a strong team environment.

Essential Functions and Principal Accountabilities:

· Enter claims into the claim system efficiently and accurately with the objective of meeting & exceeding established production and quality standards.

· Process entry level suspended claims and adjustments in an accurate and timely manner.

· Review and enter monthly operations invoices for manager approval. Work with vendors as needed with questions.

· Provide courteous assistance to customer inquiries by phone, email/letter or in person for one line of business: Commercial or Government Programs.

· Provide back up coverage for Mailroom and reception desk.

· Establish and maintain team working relationships with customers, co-workers and other resources as needed.

· Maintain a highly organized document retention system (paper and/or scanned)

· Recommend improvements in workflow and processing.

· Complete special projects on time with high quality.

· Represent Delta Dental of Iowa as well as the other Delta Dental companies in a professional manner both internally and externally.

· Assists other areas of Delta Dental to meet corporate goals.

· Maintain strict confidentiality.

· Perform other duties as assigned.



1. Bachelor’s Degree or three to five years of combined experience in customer service, an insurance company or a dental office. 

2. Demonstrated excellent telephone, written and verbal communication skills.

3. Effective interpersonal skills.

4. Advanced PC skills including the ability to troubleshoot common problems and navigate the internet/web services. Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) experience preferred.

5. Ability to analyze information and make independent decisions in accordance with Delta Dental policies and procedures.

6. Ability to work independently or as part of a team to achieve assigned tasks.

7. Demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize and function effectively with multiple tasks/assignments.

8. Ability to meet with customers and respond to their questions and concerns in a professional manner.

9. Basic math ability.

10. Dependability in attendance and punctuality required.
