The Director of Special Events and Experiences joins Boston Ballet at an exciting moment of growth and is a strategic leader and go-to expert throughout the organization who strives to maximize donor and patron experiences.


The Director supports the Development team in creating elegant events and experiences (in-person and virtual) that align with Boston Ballet’s visions and values while exceeding donor expectations in successful collaboration with the Artistic and Institutional Advancement departments.


This position is considered full-time and exempt.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


• Manage Boston Ballet’s annual gala, Boston Ballet Ball, and coordinate a robust slate of 70+ cultivation, stewardship, and fundraising events in collaboration with staff throughout the organization.


• Ownership of annual fundraising goal, timeline, and project management for the beloved Boston Ballet Ball, working closely with board leaders, fundraisers, vendors, and colleagues throughout the organization.


• Lead the execution of Boston Ballet’s signature events, including opening night dinners and parties, the annual corporate fundraiser, donor travel opportunities, as well as special opportunities throughout the year to elevate the donor experience.


• Partner with colleagues in the development of concepts, themes, and formats for signature events that will delight supporters, increase brand awareness, and ultimately surpass financial goals.


• Leverage database to transparently manage event attendance and track event success; oversee protocols for events-related activities and assets, bringing organization and transparency to work shared by staff throughout the organization.


• Responsible for managing budget and vendor relationships, including diversifying vendor portfolios and negotiating rates to enhance budgets.

Requirements

The Director is an experienced, results-oriented professional with strong events management experience. The Director must possess the skills to develop effective working relationships and an ability to work independently and as a member of the Boston Ballet team.


  • 5-10 years of strong events management experience, preferably in a nonprofit/fundraising setting
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Goal-driven with a focus on ROI, including the ability to maximize net margin, manage costs, and measure the efficacy of events through data and metrics
  • Solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving
  • Clear, effective, and warm communications skills
  • Skills as a collaborative, flexible team player and self-starter, demonstrating creativity, sense of humor, innovative thinking
  • Willingness to support at every level of event management
