Staff Accountant

Job Purpose:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for performing a variety of essential accounting duties to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.  

Primary Accountabilities:

  • Accounts Payable: Responsible for reviewing, approving, and posting of invoice payments. Works with the team to resolve inaccurate coding or insufficient documentation. Maintains accurate historical records for research and analysis of historical payments.

  • General Ledger: Works independently to prepare daily and monthly general ledger journal entries, resolves reconciliation discrepancies, and validates records are maintained accurately to close out the Bank’s monthly books. Assist with the Holding Company’s financials by recording entries for monthly activity and intercompany eliminations. May perform reconciliation of balance sheet and income statement accounts.  

  • Budgeting: Attends budget planning meetings to assist with the gathering of information from others across the organization. Utilizes multiple systems to support the preparation and reporting of the overall bank budget and departmental breakouts. Provides monthly budget-to-actual reporting and insight to management and department heads. 

  • Reporting: Supports the Bank’s regulatory reporting requirements including the quarterly submission of the call report. Works with auditors to assist with the year-end audited financials and provide relative supporting documents. Creates multiple monthly board and managerial reports.

Education & Experience:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from a College or University and 3-5 years of experience in an accounting or related position.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and more with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception in the window environment and the ability to adjust focus. 
  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Local travel may be required.
