 ABOUT DALLAS SPORTS COMMISSION 

The Dallas Sports Commission (DSC) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to attract, retain and support sports and entertainment events that will position Dallas as the premier sports destination and have a positive impact on the economy and quality of life of Dallas residents.


SCOPE

The Sports Sales & Service Manager will recruit and support sports meetings, conventions and events that positively affect the Dallas economy through hotel occupancy, attendance, and economic impact. The ideal candidate must be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, have impeccable communication skills, be able to handle themselves with professionalism, and have the drive necessary to handle the pace of the events associated with the Dallas Sports Commission



Requirements

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (individual duties, assignments, and responsibilities required of the position)


A. Commitment to the Core Values and meeting the goals and objectives of the Dallas Sports Commission

B. Perform all sales & services duties for events that have 1,000 attendees or less and/or have less than 500 contracted hotel rooms on peak

C. Conduct feasibility analysis on all RFP’s within market segment to determine if they meet DSC mission and are financially viable

D. All data entry for sales lead process including convention center calendar reservations into current database system

E. Industry tradeshow preparation including but not limited to budget, research, client events, booth design and strategy, collateral, gifts, and overall customer experience

F. Direct sales contact with prospective clients via sales trips to cities that headquarter sports groups or management companies that handle sports group business to maintain on-going communication

G. Create client presentations and bid books (digital and print) that present Dallas as the premier destination of choice for event producers for solicitation of new and repeat business

H. During dates of event, meeting or convention held in our city, daily contact with executive meeting planner or event organizer to assist any needs by the client

I. Maintain Dallas Sports Commission accounts through CRM system, DSC website, and event calendar to include but not be limited to traces, economic impact calculations (EIC), hotel pick-up numbers, survey data analysis, marketing metrics, and post event attendance reports

J. Serve on a variety of Local Organizing Committees for major events hosted in the Dallas area

K. Work closely with events to ensure client experience embodies DSC mission and customer service philosophy through overall communication, onsite experiences, gifts, etc. 

L. Perform all administrative tasks needed for the position including but not limited to correspondence, hotel grids, expense reports, site visit itineraries, post-event recaps, budget tracking, bid questionnaire completion, surveys

M. Coordinate meeting and event logistics on behalf of the Dallas Sports Commission for sporting events, meetings, conventions, client site visits, sports familiarization (FAM) trips, and new client events

N. Work with clients to increase their event value and recognition in the city of Dallas. Develop strategies with clients to increase event attendance, competitors, room nights, etc.

O. Maintain appropriate relationships with vendors, local businesses, government organizations, sports organizations, venues, and regional partners to be able to provide events with the tools necessary to be successful including:

a. Communications to key stakeholdersb. Marketing and attendance generating collateralc. Operationsd. Citywide Presencee. Special Eventsf. Vendor Recommendations

P. Available to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed

Q. Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds.

R. Other duties as assigned.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: (personnel supervision, budgets, performance, etc.)

  • Event Specific Budgets
  • Assistance in coordination and event operations with interns as needed


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: (special training, certifications, college degree, etc.)

  • The ideal candidate will have a four-year degree from an accredited college or university and least five (5) years of demonstrated  experience in a Sports Commission and/or hospitality industry with specific experience in sales and service.
  • Strong and consistent ability to prioritize activities within specific time guideline and to handle multiple responsibilities within a      specific time frame.
  • Willing and able to work evenings, weekends and holidays based on client and office demands.
  • Ability to operate computer, e-mail system and general office equipment including laptop computers when traveling away from office and working remotely.
  • A proven history of achieving and exceeding goals and the ability to work independently or within a team.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (technical, communication, interpersonal, etc.)

  • Understand the methods, procedures, and techniques of the Dallas Sports Commission and interfacing with event venues, hotels, clients, and exhibit facilities
  • Strong and consistent ability to prioritize activities within specific time guidelines and ability to handle multiple responsibilities within a  specific time frame
  • Strong computer skills in database management, word processing, windows-based software and general office equipment
  • A proven history of achieving and exceeding goals and the ability to work independently or      within a team
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain high levels of excellence
  • Skill and ability to develop and implement portions of a business plan and manage a budget
  • Creativity in problem-solving along with solid organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively lead and follow, as appropriate

WORK ENVIRONMENT: (overtime, travel, physical demands, and conditions)

  • Must be an enthusiastic team player willing to work evenings and weekends as needed for events. Some travel      may be required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, handle object and office tools, reach, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is exposed to an office environment with noise levels usually moderate.
