Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications.
  • Sets up and operates all common welding equipment including SMAW (Stick), GMAW (Mig), SAW (Submerged arc), semi-automated and Oxyfuel gas in a heavy industrial setting.
  • Efficiently cuts and excavates cracks with Air Carbon-Arc as well as cutting with Oxyfuel, Plasma, and track burners.
  • Sets up, centers, and secures pieces on rotary tilt positioners.
  • Operates semi-automatic or automatic welding equipment for weld build-up, use of jigs, selecting or setting of currents or setting time cycles, and use of electrodes. Unites metal parts in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Checks, adjusts and regulates current and time cycle for varying conditions of materials to obtain proper welds.
  • Cuts workpieces, using fabrication equipment including powered saws, shears, brakes, and rolls.
  • Removes rough spots from the workpiece, using a portable grinder, hand file, or scraper.
  • Heats, forms, and dresses metal parts, using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment.
  • Assists Mechanical Cell with Teardown and Inspection.
  • Safely operates overhead cranes and forklifts to handle pieces up to 65 tons.
  • Works effectively with minimal supervision. Must be reliable and display attention to detail.
  • Performs routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Completes required inspection documentation reports.
  • Receives priorities, instructions, and assignments from the supervisor.
  • Maintains good housekeeping practices.
  • Observes all safety and general plant rules.
  • Works overtime - evenings, weekends, holidays
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

  • Five years’ related repair and fabrication experience preferred.
  • Must be reliable and dependable.
  • Reads and understands the English language (alpha and numeric) sufficient to read and understand requisitions, drawings, and engineering specifications.
  • Observes safety regulations and exhibit a high concern for safety.
  • Possesses intermediate math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, decimals and fractions, geometry) for measurement, testing, and problem resolution.
  • Ability to read and understand shop drawings and welding details, set up and adjust welding equipment to fabricate assemblies within tolerances required.
  • Must have knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, use, repair, and maintenance; knowledge of design techniques and principals involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Must be able to pass a welding test certifying that work meets the required specifications and standards. 2G, 3G, and 4G Welding Certification preferred
  • CWI certification is a major plus.

Skills And Abilities

  • Bends, stoops, crouches, twists, leans, reaches, picks up, and lifts raw materials of various weights and of various lengths.
  • Lifts up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently.
  • Demonstrates manual dexterity sufficient to properly operate welding and related machines.
  • Visual acuity to operate machines where the job is at or within arm’s reach.
  • Utilizes oral communication to convey detailed or important instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Able to wear safety apparatus/clothing when required.
  • Perceives the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels. Receives detailed information through oral communication.
  • Position requires work both inside and outside the building in various weather conditions.
  • This position requires repetitive or periodic movement based upon demand for an order.
