Media Manager

The Media Manager reports to the Director of Strategic Communications and Advancement and works across departments to promote MASS MoCA’s dynamic programs to a wide range of stakeholders and audiences and establish and maintain a strong brand voice across channels. The Media Manager is an action-oriented self-starter and strategic thinker who oversees press outreach, social media, and digital asset management. The successful candidate is a strong manager who has a passion for arts and cultural institutions, enjoys being part of a close-knit team that works collaboratively across departments, and thrives in a nimble, fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.


  • Develop, oversee, and implement yearly public relations strategies consistent with MASS MoCA’s Strategic Plan, vision and values, developed with the Director of Strategic Communications and Advancement, the museum’s PR firm, museum leadership, curators, artists, and partners.
    • Oversee creation and distribution of relevant press materials, including photographs and videos, as well as the coordination of interview details and press previews for development, artists, staff, and media.
    • Work with media to obtain features and previews of performances and exhibitions, family and community programs, and other events, including distribution of relevant materials to media outlets in order to promote the museum.
    • Attend and assist media at exhibition openings, public programs, and other events.
  • Develop and steward strong relationships with local, regional and national press.
  • Support institutional development, education programs, and human resources efforts with message development and delivery.
  • Manage a team of two communications professionals, including a Communications Coordinator and Digital Asset Coordinator


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, preferred
  • 5 years of relevant professional experience (experience with cultural institutions preferred) 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (selected candidates will be asked to submit a writing sample)
  • A commitment to producing exceptional work with strong attention to detail and proofreading skills
  • Proven experience managing social media platforms and analytics technologies to engage a diverse audience
  • Proven strength in time and project management, including the ability to set goals, prioritize and use collaboration tools
  • Must have gravitas to work under tight pressure of multiple deadlines, in a fast-paced and changing environment, while remaining calm and at ease with media partners and colleagues. 
  • Professional poise and a comfort level while representing the Museum to the public, at events and all community engagements


Work Conditions:

  • Position may require extended hours, work on weekends, holidays and for festivals and events

Physical Requirements:

  • For employment at MASS MoCA, candidates must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination will be required for employment.
