Software Engineer Intern
Fully Remote
Description

Who We Are:

We are a software development and IT consulting firm who knock the socks off our clients. We work closely with organizations to develop creative and custom software solutions so they can focus on what’s most important, their mission. Here at KL&A, we love what we do and believe that our employees are our greatest asset which is why we search for the best and brightest (and perhaps the most caffeinated) of the bunch. Which is why our employees have the opportunity to work in an environment of their choosing: whether in the dynamic office environment, in your pj bottoms at home, or a combination of the two. P.S. We don’t mean to brag, but we’re honored to have been named a Top Workplace by the Detroit Free Press for four years in a row.

Who You Are:

You’re the type of person who is fascinated by the magic known as software development. You’re burning with curiosity and love to break things down to truly understand how and why it works. You enjoy being challenged and learning something new every day. You love working with a team and thrive off of receiving feedback and learning from your colleagues. You’re not afraid to ask questions or take initiative when the opportunity presents itself. You’re a highly motivated individual who loves to collaborate but also loves to get in the trenches to figure out how things work. Most importantly, you have a passion for technology and helping others.

About the Role:

As a Software Engineer intern, you will work directly with our development teams creating innovative solutions for our clients. You’ll work with a team composed of fellow software engineers, project managers, business analysts, and client stakeholders who work in a primarily remote work environment. Even as an intern, we won’t make you do coffee runs - you will help to develop and deploy web-based applications while experiencing the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) within an agile software development environment. You will have an opportunity to explore different technologies and approaches; growing skills you didn’t know you wanted or needed. You’ll receive mentorship and one-on-one coaching from our wicked smart software engineers, learning so much that your brain may combust. Not to mention, you’ll do all of this within a fun, laid-back atmosphere. Your work schedule will take place in the Eastern time zone and will travel to our Okemos, MI office as needed.

Work Environment

Since the COVID-19 pandemic forced most of us to work remotely, KL&A has embraced the new flexible scheduling that was the one microscopic light at the end of the isolated tunnel. As a result, we are conducting all interviews virtually (get your Zoom background ready.) New employees have the option of being onboarded into a virtual, in-person, or hybrid work schedule and are provided the tools they need to begin employment successfully regardless of location.
