Two (2) positions open:


Shift 1 (2 days/week): 4:30 pm - 9 pm Tuesdays & Fridays

Shift 2 (2 days/week): 9:30 am - 2:00 pm Tuesdays AND Saturdays 12:00pm - 4:30 pm (with the potential of a 9:30 - 4:30pm floating shift)


Purpose:  To assist at the Henry Got Crops farm market. This position is ideal for someone who has some experience in either food retail and/or farm markets and is looking to deepen and broaden their farm market skills at a community-centric, urban farm.


Duties/Responsibilities:  Responsible for assisting in the farm market operations during Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday markets. Basic tasks include setting up/maintaining/taking down grocery and produce displays, maintaining high quality and freshness of all perishable products, culling undesirable produce, preparing produce for displays as needed, adherence to established food handling safety guidelines including proper rotation of grocery items according to FIFO method (First In, First Out), checking food date labels as needed, maintaining our system for storing/labeling/organizing all back stock in the refrigerators and dry-shelves, safe handling of box cutters and knives, checking out customers on the registers in an efficient and friendly manner, handling payment transactions and other POS procedures with accuracy, welcoming customers and fielding questions about our farms and our market and its products, the CSA program, our community partnerships, and the co-op. You must comply with our Covid-19 safety protocols. 


Compensation/Benefits: This is an hourly paid position, starting at $14/hr.   Farm market staff are welcome to take home select produce from the farms, and receive a staff discount and working member discount for a combined total of 15% at Weavers Way Coop. 



Requirements

Administrative Tasks:  Filling out inventory sheets, counting the cash drawer, operating the register, signing up new Weavers Way Co-op members as well as enrolling members in the Senior Discount and Food-For-All program. .


Physical Requirement: You should be able to work under adverse conditions (heat, humidity, cold, rain, mosquitoes) in a rustic building while potentially wearing a face mask, stand/bend frequently for the length of your shift, and be able to safely lift 50 lbs. 


Skills/Attributes:  Must have excellent customer service skills while interacting with diverse clientele and farm volunteers, ability to communicate and work within a team that may include teenage staff, willingness to work independently as needed, strong and reliable work ethic, endurance in a fast-paced retail environment, attention to detail, and openness to learning new skills related to retail and food-handling. Previous food handling and SMS register/retail POS experience highly preferred.  Interest in community-based sustainable food systems, seasonal cooking and local food, and farming/gardening encouraged but not required. Should enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions.


Hours and Timeline Commitment: Assistant is expected to commit to the rest of the present growing season, which runs through November (shifts will shorten along with market hours during the month of November on account of Daylight Savings Time)

Position 1: 9 hours/week

Position 2: 9 to 11.5 hours/week
