Easterseals Academy is a therapeutic school that provides schooling for children with an autism spectrum disorder, emotional disability, developmental delay, or intellectual disability. School districts refer students to Easterseals Academy where the schools provide an alternative school placement for these students to help them to achieve independence. Easterseals Academy has three campuses, located in Chicago, Machesney Park, and Tinley Park.

The Art Teacher is responsible to provide group and individual classes, while also providing creative support to classrooms and other activities as needed throughout the school year.
This position is located at the Easterseals Academy - Machesney Park Campus at 8301 Mitchelle Road, Machesney Park, IL 61115.
MAJOR FUNCTIONS/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Adhere to all mandated reporters and OIG guidelines at all times
- Provide group and individual art classes throughout the school year
- Provide creative support to classrooms and other activities as needed or requested throughout the school year
- Plan and modify art lessons regularly based on student needs
- Maintain and stock the art supply room in an orderly fashion throughout the school year
- Submit supply orders to Administration for approval at least one month before the date needed throughout the school year
- Assist classrooms during extracurricular activities and field trips as needed throughout the school year
- Participate in all scheduled in-house training throughout the school year
- Participate in at least 2 outside training per school year directly related to serving students with special needs, particularly those diagnosed with autism
- Participate in classroom team meetings as needed throughout the school year
- Participate in all scheduled clinical team meetings throughout the school year
- Participate in all scheduled medical case review meetings for all students throughout the school year, as available
- Interact with Administration and classroom staff regarding recommendations throughout the school year
- Provide education/information to staff, students, and parents/guardians as needed throughout the school year
- Provide supervision to interns as needed throughout the school year
- Provide progress reports for group and individual treatment classes every quarter
- Provide 2-3 in-services, either individually or in conjunction with another area, for the entire staff throughout the school year
- Provide group and individual art sessions throughout the school year
- Provide creative support to classrooms and other activities as needed or requested throughout the school year
- Obtain approval, document, and distribute cancellation of therapy to appropriate personnel, including clinical coordinator, school administrator, and classroom teacher throughout the school year
- Maintain and stock the art supply room in an orderly fashion throughout the school year
- Submit supply orders to the School Administrator/Educational Coordinator for approval at least one month before the date needed throughout the school year
- Assist classrooms during extracurricular activities and field trips as needed throughout the school year
- Participate in all scheduled in-house training throughout the school year
- Participate in at least 2 outside training per school year directly related to serving students with special needs, particularly those diagnosed with autism

Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education and an Illinois State Type 10 teaching certificate
Experience Required:
- Experience working with special needs populations is necessary
- Completion of required clinical hours for teaching degree/certificate

- Valid driver’s license
