Currently, we are seeking a Controller to join our Business Office. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will provide financial leadership to a three-person accounting team, ensuring that financial operations follow established policies and procedures and are conducted in an efficient, timely, and accurate manner, all while prioritizing a customer-focused approach.
Responsibilities
· Manage and oversee all accounting functions (A/P, A/R, Investment, Fixed Asset, General Ledger, project/program accounting including endowment funds, land and building funds, and cash management).
· Maintain and reconcile sub-ledger systems.
· Review and approve all invoices through the AVID A/P workflow/payment system.
· Work with CFO and student billing specialist as needed on past due accounts and related collection efforts.
· Coordinate with CFO in oversight of business office staff, including goal setting, workload distribution, and performance management.
· Assess current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes, including internal controls, chart of accounts and staff assignments as needed.
· Assist CFO with annual budgeting process and detailed upload of approved fiscal year budget to Veracross Financial System.
· Work with COO and CFO on all tracking of Capital Budgets and PPRRSM.
· Assist CFO, Finance Committee, Endowment Committee, and Audit Committee with all reporting, preparation for Committee meetings, and special projects.
· Produce monthly and other special financial reports, government filings, etc.
· Prepare monthly board reports.
· Produce and distribute monthly budget vs actual cost center reports to budget managers.
· Produce monthly fundraising and capital campaign tracking reports.
· In partnership with Development, reconcile fundraising activity with financial general ledger activity and update Fundriver endowment reporting system monthly.
· Prepare and manage the monthly close-outs.
· Manage annual financial audits (Financial Statements and 990 reporting).
· 7-10 years of related experience, preferably in an independent school or non-profit organization.
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, CPA preferred.
· Working knowledge of business law and regulatory standards (GAAP).
· Strong attention to detail, good organization skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent tasks in a fast-paced environment.
· High degree of integrity and ethical behavior.
· Ability to make effective use of staff through delegation of tasks, cross-training, and teamwork.
· Goal-oriented with the ability and desire to innovate.
· Ability to communicate, collaborate, and disseminate information effectively.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office suite; strong knowledge of Excel, including complex functions and formatting.
· Knowledge of Veracross and/or Blackbaud accounting systems and non-profit fund accounting preferred.
