Description

The Development Student Writer supports the mission of The Association of Former Students by developing compelling stories to convey the depth of impact of the institution’s work on Texas A&M University and Texas Aggies. This position will research, develop and write stories for use in communications to former students and other key constituents.

DUTIES

Essential Functions:

  • Identify recipients of The Association's support, including, but not limited to current students, former students, and Texas A&M faculty and staff, and conduct interviews to capture the impact of support from The Association.
  • Utilize best practices in communications to develop emotionally compelling stories of impact that inspire future gifts to The Association.
  • Write, edit and proof stories and other content for appeals, brochures, social media posts, webpages and other external communications.
  • Collaborate with members of the development, marketing and communications teams at The Association throughout the creative design process.
  • Assist with acquiring photography and graphics affiliated with stories.
  • Serve as a contact for constituent-related matters including phone calls, emails, and in-person visits, and assist the Annual Giving team with administrative support and project maintenance.
  • Perform related duties as assigned. 


Participates and provides input on various Association-wide activities which may include:

  • Actively contributing to efforts to achieve culture, engagement, and fundraising goals.
  • Providing on-site event support for Board and Leadership Council meetings.
  • Participating on internal event and task committees.
  • Participating in Association events including, but not limited to, Muster, Aggie Ring Day, Reunions, Distinguished Alumni Gala, Pass It Back Day, All-Aggie Grad Party, and All-Aggie Hullabaloo, as needed.
  • Representing The Association as needed at external events. 


Serves as an ambassador for The Association by meeting Team Expectations; supporting The Association’s fundraising, engagement, branding, and communications efforts; and fostering relationships with former students, current students, parents, faculty, staff and friends of Texas A&M.  


 Occasional other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION

Required: High school diploma. Must be current student at Texas A&M University.

Preferred: Current student at Texas A&M University pursuing degree in communications, English or journalism.


EXPERIENCE

Required: Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading and content creation skills. Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Self-motivated with strong ability to prioritize workload, use initiative, organize and follow through with tasks to meet deadlines. Must be able to effectively communicate with current students, former students, Association employees and Association leadership in a professional manner and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive issues.


SKILLS

Required: Proficient with Microsoft Office Word and Excel.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Required: Ability to operate modern office equipment, such as computers, keyboards, telephones and copiers. Ability to move and carry objects to 40 pounds.


OTHER

Required: Understanding of The Association’s mission and vision. Knowledge of Texas A&M University and its history and traditions.
