Intern, Analytical Chemist, Part Time (2301-G)

 Toyon is seeking a highly capable and motivated student with interest in the field of Analytical Chemistry to work part time under the direction of senior technical staff in our Goleta, California office. This is a part time intern position (eight to 10 hours per week during business hours Monday through Friday), requiring excellent teamwork and independent productivity in the lab. The candidate will primarily support GCMS sample processing and must be able to perform repetitive operation of a specialized sample analysis process with attention to detail and compliance with established quality-assurance protocols. There may be opportunities to participate in implementation of process improvements, process monitoring, and development of data analysis products. 

Candidates must be working toward a B.S. degree, with at least two years of university coursework, in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Candidates are expected to commit to a consistent schedule of at least 8 to 10 hours per week during business hours Monday through Friday.  


  We are looking for students who have many of the following attributes: 

  • Self-motivated, reliable, detail oriented, and organized
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills 
  • Ability to work independently and with others 
  • Desire to take responsibility for following existing protocols 
  • Excellent math background and knowledge of general office computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) 
  • An interest in working in a fast paced analytical chemistry laboratory with analytical instrumentation
  • Experience with analytical instrumentation (particularly GCMS) and/or coursework in analytical laboratory methods is preferred

U.S. Citizenship Required. Ability to qualify for a US Department of Defense security clearance required.
