Job Summary for Speech Language Pathology Assistants: 

The speech language pathology assistant is a qualified professional person who provides Speech Language Therapy services to patients in the clinic as prescribed by the attending physician and plan of care set forth by Supervising/Evaluating Speech language Pathologist.

 Responsibilities:

1. Plans activities and provides therapeutic services for speech and language disorders
2. Records type of treatment and patient’s reaction to it on clinical/progress notes, which are written on the day of the visit and incorporated in the patient’s record weekly.
3. Maintains adequate records on all patient’s, including summary reports.
4. Utilizes community resources and Agency personnel for proper referral.
5. Be supervised by an SLP. Follow guidelines for supervision as outlined by the State Board for Speech Language Pathology & Audiology in a clinical setting.
6. Participates in staff development activities and in-service education as requested.
7. Confirms, on a weekly basis, the scheduling of visits with the Office Manager and/or ST Supervisor to coordinate necessary visits with other personnel.
8. Notifies Agency of absences due to illness, emergency leave, normal vacation periods, or special professional meetings, which will all affect agreed services with the Agency.
9. Participates with staff, supervising SLP, patient, and physician in discharge planning activities and completes the speech therapy discharge summary within the designated framework of the clinic policies

Qualifications:

•  At least a bachelor’s degree
•  One (1) full year of supervised work experience preferred.
•  Licensure or certification by the state of Texas as an SLPA

Organizational Relationship:

The Speech Pathologist/Audiologist Assistant reports directly to the Speech Therapy Supervisor

Functional Abilities:

•  Read 12 point or larger type.
•  Hear and speak in a manner understood by most people.
•  Stoop and bend; must be able to lift and transfer patients.
