Accounting Associate

Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt 

Compensation: $59,245 - $69,700 Annually

Reports To: Accounting Manager

The Northside Achievement Zone (NAZ) is a bold and innovative collaborative effort to close the achievement gap in a geographic “Zone” of North Minneapolis. The purpose of our work is to end multigenerational poverty in our community, using education as a lever. We use a data-driven, evidence-based, achievement-focused model in which both children and their families move through a “cradle-to-career” ecosystem that provides comprehensive support. NAZ is a leading initiative in the national Promise Neighborhoods and cradle to college/career movement. As NAZ learns what works with families in North Minneapolis to address complex issues related to urban poverty, strategies are being set up for replication and informing the regional, state, and national field.

Position Purpose

We are looking for an entry level Accounting Associate to support the financial processes in compliance with financial policies and procedures. This includes keeping records of organizational financial systems and providing professional customer service to the internal and external users of NAZ’s financial systems.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Accounts Payable: Timely and accurate processing of invoices and associated documentation and record keeping. May include vendor contact and exception resolution.
  • Accounts Receivable: Support monitoring and recording of contributions and other receipts, recording ACH contributions, verifying accounts receivable balances and ensure proper record keeping and documentation.
  • Reconciliation: Assist in monthly reconciliation of accounts.
  • Data entry: Other accounting transactions as needed.
  • Resource/Stipend Management: Coordinate inventory of NAZ resources and gift cards available to NAZ families, partner with NAZ program team to properly disburse resources.
  • Customer Service: Provide backup as needed. Provide friendly and professional service to the internal and external users of NAZ’s financial systems. 
  • Filing: organize receipts, invoices, and other supporting documentation and file according to established procedures and the principles of sound, responsible financial reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Computer knowledge in Excel, Word, Google

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with QuickBooks
  • General working knowledge of bookkeeping processes

Education and/or Experience

  • Minimum of Associates Degree in Accounting or Business Administration or 2 years of related experience

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

  • Work is normally performed in an office work environment but may occasionally include lifting and bending.
  • Regular operation of normal office machines (computer, copier, etc.) is required.
