RESPONSIBILITIES:


Staff Supervision

  • Assist in training new departmental staff in standard practices and procedures, sanitation, product information, and customer service
  • Supervise departmental staff including, scheduling, covering shifts when staff is absent
  • Setting daily and long-range priority of tasks and projects and informing staff
  • Overseeing staff for outcome
  • Contribute to growth of departmental staff work performance, including informal, on-going coaching and training
  • Understanding and carrying out Weavers Way policies

Purchasing

  • Evaluate suppliers and research new products
  • Negotiate with suppliers for favorable prices, terms, quality, and delivery
  • Achieve target margin under the guidance of the PF Manager 
  • Maintain a vendor file and ordering/receiving schedule
  • Develop and maintain a product database for use in ordering and pricing
  • Coordinate purchasing with the purchasing manager
  • Purchase products, including monitoring standing orders frequently and adjusting them according to customer demand, seasonal needs, and display limitations
  • Process special and pre-orders
  • Ensure proper procedures are followed for receiving, bagging, pricing, labeling, storage, rotation, and display
  • Coordinate returns and credit from suppliers where applicable
  • Review invoices for accuracy
  • Visit delis and other groceries for price comparisons and ideas for displays and products

Merchandising

  • Merchandise and market deli products, including promotions, coordinating discounting within and with other departments, and advertising in the Shuttle
  • Provide product information for members and staff
  • Plan attractive displays with uniform signage
  • Ensure, along with floor staff and deli staff as needed, that displays are fully stocked and rotated to guarantee freshness
  • Ensure that product labels are accurate, complete, current and include a complete ingredient list
  • Ensure display areas are maintained and clean, meeting health department standards
  • Maintain back stock and supply storage areas for cleanliness and orderliness
  • Check equipment to assure safe and proper operation and report maintenance needs
  • Develop and maintain a list of supplies needed for deli operations and merchandising and ensure an adequate stock of supplies

Plant and Equipment/Sanitation and Safety

  • Ensure food prep and display areas are maintained in sanitary, orderly condition, meeting health department standards
  • Maintain back stock and supply storage areas for cleanliness and orderliness
  • Ensure proper storage and labeling procedures
  • Order and maintain equipment (such as pricing guns, etc.) and supplies as needed for the department
  • Check equipment to assure safe and proper operation and report maintenance needs

Customer Service

  • Treat people fairly, courteously, and with respect so that they are given a reason to return
  • Offer samples and suggestions for purchase and nutrition information to customers
  • Report customer suggestions, use and promote the use of Snapshots
  • Accurately and completely record special orders and ensure the forms are delivered for processing

Other Duties

  • Observe all Weavers Way policies and procedures
  • Attend management team, departmental, all-staff meetings
  • Assist with quarterly inventories
  • Perform other duties as assigned/required

Work Schedule

  • Flexibility in schedule required
  • The schedule is also seasonal, hours generally increasing as holidays approach
