The Business Analyst is responsible for contributing to our implementation and support processes, writing, and approving internal and customer-facing documentation, and contributing to a product development lifecycle that produces high quality, consistency, high customer satisfaction, and on-time/on-budget deliverables. These responsibilities extend to managing end-to-end processes related to our Skillable Studio platform and tool development for our back-end systems.


JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders and engineering to flesh out product requirements and own the backlog refinement process to enable all pre-dev to meet 'definition of ready’ (DoR) 
  • Support and assist Product Manager with feature and user story definition, prioritization, and ongoing refinement (Azure Dev Ops backlog management)
  • Review, analyze and evaluate business systems, processes, and company needs in a manner that drives appropriate and defensible prioritization decisions.
  • Assist Product Manager, Scrum Master, and Dev Leads with scope and estimation for proposed solutions leading to accurate cost and timeline estimates
  • Determine how changing business needs will affect current systems and processes (outline current vs future state scenarios for feature sets and user stories)
  • Define/outline high-level Acceptance Criteria and primary functional testing scenarios for features and user stories (Gherkin / behavior-driven-design)
  • Identify and coordinate cross-functional dependencies throughout the release cycle
  • Identify and analyze non-functional requirements such as system performance, usability, reliability, adaptability, security, legal and other operational aspects
  • Act as the liaison between the Product and the development team/s throughout the solution delivery process/SDLC
  • Ensure that specification documents meet the required business functionality (documentation for how to deploy, how to troubleshoot, how to use, etc.)
  • Coordinate software builds through different environments, including the coordination of testing events and deployments
  • Perform functional and regression testing where requested, to support QA (Quality Assurance) 
  • Assist all members of the product team with promotion, facilitation and implementation of Scrum and Agile training for development teams to enable continued success with current agile transformation and to realize the 'value of Scrum' 
  • Proactively drive continuous improvement through thoughtful participation in Retrospective and “post-dev” processes
  • Prepare for meaningful Retrospective meetings and create action plans for overall process improvement. 
  • Create a rhythm for proactive communication and reporting on platform and application performance and development velocity (Sprint and Scrum team reports) with the Product Owner(s) and related team members.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences (including Sprint demonstrations and company-wide release demonstrations).
  • Assist users, customers, additional employees, and technical support team, in solving both functional and system issues/bugs on an ad-hoc basis (bug triages and diagnosis)
  • Enable and implement cross-functional and cross-company support and training where applicable, especially while coordinating User Acceptance Testing (i.e., explaining Acceptance Criteria, validating test cases, reviewing documentation). 
  • Represent Skillable at industry events and conferences as required.
  • Support and promote the company values through positive interactions with both internal and external partners and customers on a regular basis.
  • Other strategic business initiatives or cross-functional project involvement as required.
Requirements
  • The necessary professional experience, training, skills and education for the role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (product management, business analysis, marketing, business, finance, product development, project management, etc.) or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years working in a Business Analyst, Product Manager, or related role focused on refining software requirements
  • Experience documenting complex business requirements and translating them into agile user stories is a must-have, including writing primary testing scenarios and Acceptance Criteria (Gherkin language preferred)
  • Scrum, Pragmatic and/or Agile certification is highly desired. Experience working within agile frameworks and methodologies is required
  • Proven flexibility with the ability to adapt in a growing organization while undergoing heavy change (Change Management experience and knowledge is a plus)
  • Technical understanding and conversational competence with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, Amazon Web Services), virtualization (Hyper-V, ESX), and/or container technology, and RESTful APIs (Application Programming Interface) is required. Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and related technologies a plus
  • Experience with design-thinking and/or desire to support user-experience design is a plus and highly encouraged
  • Desire and ability to work at a fast pace and drive concurrent technical projects is required.
  • Experience working in a fully remote team is preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be comfortable working closely with technical and business audiences of all levels 
  • Naturally inquisitive with a desire to solve problems and dig into detailed analysis.
  • Experience working cross-functionally and promoting collaborative partnerships to drive results.
  • Ability to present and convey material both formally and informally to all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage workload and meet project deadlines.
  • Interest and ability in mentoring other team members as applicable.
  • Strong MS Office, web conferencing and internal communication software experience.
  • Detail oriented and organized.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The job conditions for this position are in a remote home office setting, requiring a space that supports privacy and focus to attend to regular and frequent video and voice calls. Employees in this position use PC and phone on an on-going basis throughout the day. Travel is anticipated up to 20% of the time for critical business meetings and industry events.
