The Assistant General Manager reports to the General Manager of the Operational Services Division and the DTW Facilities Manager. The candidate supports the short-term and long-term coverage of valet and facilities operations at  Fly Away Valet ("FAV") sites.  Work is performed at the Fly Away Valet location at the Detroit Metro Airport and on occasion, the Assistant GM may work at JD's Ypsilanti office. The candidate will be required to travel to other FAV sites as needed such that 10-25% travel may be required. FAV sites are currently located at airports in Los Angeles CA, San Antonio TX, Cincinnati OH, Louisville KY, Pittsburgh PA, Buffalo NY, and Milwaukee WI.  


The Assistant GM is responsible for consistently delivering results that contribute to the mission and overall success of the operation by accomplishing performance objectives focused on driving revenue, controlling costs, providing guest and associate satisfaction, and delivering product and service quality. This individual may also support corporate projects and initiatives. Projects assigned for corporate initiatives may occasionally require working from Jacobsen|Daniels’ office in Ypsilanti, MI.


The Assistant GM supports facilities managers in the day-to-day management of FAV operations at all JD airport sites as directed by the General Manager. The role is specifically tasked with coordinating with JD’s Human Resources team to recruit, hire, and onboard FAV staff.

Overall Job Responsibilities:


The Assistant GM supports Facilities Managers in the day-to-day management of FAV operations at all JD airport sites as directed by the General Manager. General responsibilities include:

  • Support Facilities Managers with time entries into payroll system, scheduling shifts, and training staff members.
  • Managing, planning, and directing the activities of Facilities Managers and frontline staff.
  • Ability to travel between multiple properties (often multi-day trips).
  • Ability to assist Facilities Managers to drive engagement and job satisfaction.
  • Ability to establish relationships and foster efficient, positive, and proactive communication with Facilities Managers and staff.
  • Ability to set short-term and long-term goals geared towards each individual property’s platform, with the goal of delivering performance success.
  • Role requires the ability to drive a motor vehicle, stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, occasionally lift as much as 40 lbs.
  • Role requires occasional work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
  • Support timesheet management, payroll review, and invoicing.
  • Assist with managing the point system and scheduling in compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) at locations where CBAs are in effect.
  • Assist in addressing staff member grievances as needed.
  • Available to fill in for facilities personnel if necessary, including holidays, weekends, overnights, and may include periods of inclement weather.

The candidate will coordinate with JD’s corporate Human Resources team to recruit, hire, and onboard FAV staff. Human Resources related activities may include:

  • Reviewing job applications.
  • Scheduling interviews and screening candidates.
  • Processing applications and following up with candidates to move them through the hiring/onboarding process.

Specific Requirements:

  • Ensures that all policies, procedures, federal, state, and local ordinances about personnel, security, cash handling, guest relations, and safety are followed.
  • Maintains and improves property standards and service to ensure guest satisfaction and the right public image.
  • Ensure that the property and its inventories are always in the best conditions.
  • Comply with all corporate human resources and accounting procedures.
  • Inspects property on a regular basis and enforces the implementation of actions toward the safety, comfort, and cleanliness of the property and guest satisfaction.
  • Ensure property hiring and all employee practices comply with company and legal requirements and strive for a culturally diverse work place.
  • Act as "Manager on duty" as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Valid driver's license, insurable driving record history, and the ability to drive vehicles.
  • Ability to pass an airport security clearance, with no arrest record within the last 10 years. 
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Work Experience and Education:

  • The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 2-3 years of supervisory experience over a team of at least 10-20 individuals.
  • Prior experience in valet operations, facilities management, and familiarity with union labor relations is preferred. 
  • Previous experience working in high-stress situations with tight deadlines/high customer expectations.
  • Knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and general Microsoft Office applications.
  • A four-year college degree is a plus.

Working Conditions: 


The Assistant General Manager will report to work at the Fly Away Valet location at the Detroit Metro Airport and on occasion, will also work at JD's Ypsilanti office as needed. The candidate may be required to travel to other FAV sites as needed (currently those locations are Los Angeles CA, San Antonio TX, Cincinnati OH, Louisville KY, Pittsburgh PA, Buffalo NY, and Milwaukee WI).

 

Periodic weekend or evening work is expected. 


Reporting Relationships: 


Position reports to the General Manager of Operational Services.


Supervisory Responsibility: 


From time to time, the Assistant General Manager will fill in for site managers and will supervise staff at FAV airport locations as needed.
