Essential Job Functions: 

  • Implement and monitor systems, workflow, processes, scheduling and yearly programs. Ensure items are completed on time and done in the most cost-effective manner.
  • Direct and manage maintenance, capital and facility projects.
  • Develop strong relationships with direct reports (managers and employees) coaching them to ensure employees are engaged in the company.
  • Coordinate with outside technical staff, construction, design, architects and outside contractors and ensure the end job is on par with the quality standards of the company.


Maintenance and Repair:

  • Lead maintenance department efforts for general/preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and installations of winery, (systems and equipment) to ensure winery operates effectively and efficiently.
  • Improve winery productivity levels and maintenance costs. Follow company procedures and approvals for vendor and equipment purchases.
  • Repair and troubleshoot mechanical equipment and systems by isolating malfunction, disassembling equipment and repair/replacement components. Call outside vendor as needed to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Assemble and install mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment and systems such as production machinery/tools, conveyor systems, storage racks and tanks, facility equipment.
  • Manage outside vendors and contractors to include selection, evaluation and three bid process. Ensure work is performed correctly and to company standard. (no band aids)
  • Ensure Cal/OSHA safe work practices, rules and regulations are performed and followed by winery staff and outside contractors.
  • Manage water systems at each facility and vineyard (well and city water). Ensure water system is regularly tested, maintained and monitor usage.
  • Work with county agencies (Napa County, Water Resource Board, etc.) to ensure all requirements are met.
  • Review service requests for repairs and maintenance. Determine nature of problem and recommend appropriate solution.
  • Perform welding, electrical, carpentry, refrigeration, HVAC, painting and plumbing duties as needed.
  • Ensure company tools are secured and kept in good condition to maintain longevity.


Preventative Maintenance:

  • Maintain preventative maintenance schedule via Maintenance Connection. Perform skilled level repairs, preventative maintenance and modifications on winery buildings, equipment, fixtures, systems and overall facility in winery and owner property(s) performing tasks such as plumbing and electrical, painting and various handy man type tasks and maintenance.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and perform required preventative maintenance actions including; repair, modification and routine maintenance of buildings, facilities, equipment, fixtures and systems.
  • Improve equipment reliability through the adherence of preventive/predictive maintenance programs and efficient winery equipment utilization.
  • Ensure new equipment is installed and maintained on a regular basis. Develop a maintenance calendar and ensure schedule is followed accordingly.
  • Provide excellent customer service to department managers ensuring their maintenance needs are assessed, scheduled and budgeted correctly.
  • Ensure bottling lines runs at 100% efficiency and machine functions at optimum capacity.
  • Monitor & maintain winery solar system to ensure system runs at optimum capacity.


Construction:

  • Perform or provide recommendations and oversee the implementation of construction projects including, building design, equipment drawings, cost estimates, proposals, sub-contractor bids, quality specifications, materials, and invoice management.
  • Direct work and inspect working areas to monitor compliance with building and safety codes and other regulations as required by local, state and federal mandates.
  • Oversee all governmental agency relations. This includes submissions for construction permits, building codes and usage permits that meet local and state compliance.


Administration:

  • Establish, prioritize, and maintain daily work schedules, equipment warranties and maintenance records.
  • Maintenance service records, inventory of assets and provides recommendations on replacement.
  • Create yearly maintenance budget to be approved by the Controller.
  • Order supplies and general equipment as projected in department budget.
  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Repair and move office equipment, materials and furniture as needed.
  • Read and understands OEM Manuals.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High School Education required in addition to college level or technical training education.
  • Five (5) years journeyman level maintenance or general construction experience with knowledge of various trades including welding, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, refrigeration and installation.
  • Ability to perform welding, forklift repair and bottling line experience is strongly preferred.
  • Requires skilled knowledge of how to operate trade tools and perform jobs at a high quality while being safe.
  • Certification to operate specific machinery or plant vehicles (forklift) is required. Man and scissor lift certificate preferred. Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory requirements.
  • Skilled to work from blue prints and all phases of mechanical work
