GENERAL FUNCTION: Provide peer counseling support to youth and their families to facilitate and ensure success in the school setting. Engage, inspire, and facilitate meaningful conversations with students that encourages them to explore, create, and meet their personal academic goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Provides peer counseling support to youth and their families to include consultation, practical health and support, mentoring, crisis intervention and advocacy to instill hope for a brighter future.
• Consult with student, family members and academic staff to determine necessary steps to ensure progress is made toward academic milestones.
• Collaborate with student and provides academic, social and emotional support as needed.
• Mentors student and families as needed to ensure success, in support of the student’s academic health and wellness efforts.
• Advocates on behalf of the student and family to help identify barriers and offer solutions for success, maximizing student’s voice.
• Assists with student goal setting, problem solving, accessing resources, skill building, self-advocacy and positive relationship building.
• Participates in outreach and education related to mental health and wellness.
• Provide consultation to the academic and KCC team to ensure student’s point of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected, and integrated into services and self-help programming.
• Completes documentation in a timely manner, meeting established deadlines.

GRANT SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:

• Participates in grant Partnership Coordinating Team (PCT) and Zero Suicide Implementation Team (ZSIT) meetings.
• Works with at risk youth to identify, remediate and collaboratively develop individualized safety plans to ensure student is able to remain in academic environment.
• Provide students with crisis intervention supports and connect them with appropriate resources.
• Will provide group facilitation on topics such as bi-cultural competence, historical trauma, healthy coping and other various related topics as identified by school administration.

• High School Diploma
• (1) year of volunteer or paid experience working with youth
• Must have lived experience with mental health and life experiences that uniquely equip you to provide support, encouragement, and resources to clients
• Experience working in Tribal communities
• Must have a valid WA State Driver License, current liability insurance and provide copy of driving record
