While your main focus will be supporting APHSA’s overall marketing and communications program to advance our mission and goals, we’re also looking for someone who thrives in a multi-team environment. In addition, we need someone who is comfortable being on multiple cross functional internal teams to advance the work both internally and externally with kindness, compassion, inclusion, and a can-do spirit.
Your direct supervisor and coach will be the Director of Communications. Your support will be the entire APHSA organization because we work best when we all work together!
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Marketing and Communications Specialist will collaborate and support all teams across the association, engaging in various forms and combinations of content creation and management. They will also employ communication, marketing, and social media tactics and strategies to elevate the association’s brand and visibility, and best support APHSA’s membership of human services leaders across the country to ultimately advance our mission.
Supervisor Responsibilities:

Major Responsibility #1 Electronic Communications (25%)
- Write, design, and disseminate e-mail campaigns;
- Manage robust schedule for all e-communications.
Major Responsibility #2 Content Management (20%)
- Responsible for reviewing websites and maintaining content updates;
- Assist with editing and finalizing publications including magazine articles, newsletters, and papers;
- Assist with writing, editing, and reviewing copy for media kit and sponsor-related prospectus.
Major Responsibility #3 Social Media Management (20%)
- Maintain social media platforms and stay up to date on the latest capabilities and trends including advertisements (currently utilize LinkedIn and Twitter);
- Recommend strategy on how to increase social media presence, tailor content to membership and partners, and leverage the association’s content across all channels.
Major Responsibility #4 Marketing (25%)
- Collaborate and develop strategy for marketing of conferences and events; prepare and execute e-communications for all events;
- Write press releases for conferences and related events;
- Provide insight and recommendations on modern marketing strategies (e.g., digital retargeting, A/B campaigns, etc.).
Major Responsibility #5 Other Responsibilities (10%)
- Use data from communication platforms (email, social media, website, etc.) to inform next steps; create data reports and share analysis from platforms;
- Serve on planning committees and workgroups, as needed;
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the principles and procedures of communication and marketing including those needed to establish and manage communication and marketing plans/campaigns for a variety of purposes.
- Excellent writer and editor.
- Extreme attention to detail.
- Ability to work across teams and independently.
- Project management (develop timelines and ensure adherence to deadlines).
- Well-organized with ability to work on and manage a variety of projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of Hootsuite, Bitly, or other marketing software and media management systems.
- Familiarity with basic HTML and/or Wix website builder a plus.
- Proficient in e-mail marketing platforms (currently Constant Contact) and list management.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 Suite.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Ambition to set goals and ensure continuous quality improvement.
- Some proficiency in use of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat Pro).
- Willingness to travel (up to 15%) as public health considerations permit.
Education and Experience:
- BA/BS Degree in Marketing/Communication (may substitute 3 or more years of equivalent applicable experience)
- 3 – 5+ years of experience
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to travel within the US.
