We are seeking a part-time, Studio Teaching Assistant to join our Learning and Audience Engagement Team! 


Nestled in 25 acres of beautiful gardens, Philbrook Museum of Art is a 1920s Italianate Villa featuring a dynamic program of rotating exhibitions and galleries alongside a robust slate of interactive and hands-on experiences. With an increased emphasis on how art and nature intersect throughout the galleries and gardens, programs at Philbrook prioritize connection through inspiration, creativity, learning, and social engagement. Hosting over 140,000 guests annually, Philbrook aims to reach a broad range of audiences, both locally across Tulsa, the region and beyond, and to provide a welcoming, relevant, and fun experience for all visitors.


As the Studio Teaching Assistant, you are primarily responsible for assisting with the implementation of a new series of art and nature-focused workshops for adults ages 55+, and will support general studio usage year-round. A significant portion of your time will be devoted to prepping spaces and materials for classes, assisting Teaching Artists during each workshop session, and to ensuring studios are set for the next group. In addition, you will coordinate the use of classroom spaces/supplies generally to ensure studio-based activities across the Learning and Audience Engagement department are well-organized. In this role, you will be a key player in ensuring the new workshops meet their goals to encourage creativity and social connection for older adults through maintaining organized, welcoming studio environments that set students up for success. 

Requirements

What You Will Do:

  • Responsible for studio maintenance
  • Gather workshop material and prep studios prior to class
  • Communicate with frontline teams as needed on days workshop is in session
  • Assist Teaching Artists during classes
  • General studio/supply management
  • Welcome students and help with their questions 
  • Support overall department activities as needed


What You Will Bring:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in the art studio environment including comfort with various media
  • Strong organizational skills

Qualifications

  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • People-oriented and enjoys working with audiences
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and desire to work as a team with Museum staff, teaching artists, and students
  • Takes our hospitality role seriously, and understands how small touches can make the day-to-day experience feel magical
  • Intermediate personal computer skills including word processing, database and spreadsheet applications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with artists
  • Experience working with older adult audiences
  • Teaching experience
  • Art studio management experience

This is a part-time, 18-month, grant funded position from March 2023 - August 2024. Must be available to work weekend hours when workshops are in session. Must be available to work both weekday and weekend hours.  This position averages 20 hours per week.

$17.00/hr
