Part-Time American Sign Language Teacher

SUMMARY

This position is part-time, teaching two classes for the 2024-2025 academic year with the potential for more classes added in the following years. The individual must understand ASL at a mastery level as this is an immersion-style class. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Interacts with students as individuals in a compassionate and professional way. Guides students into becoming mature, thoughtful, responsible, compassionate young adults that reflect the heart of Jesus. Creates high expectations for learning while also taking into account the individual challenges of students. 
  • Prefers a “voice-off” policy. 
  • Ability to have an incredible time with students. Might stomp feet regularly to get the attention of students. 
  • Maintains accurate records of grades and contacts parents when students drop below satisfactory achievement. Creates resources for students on Blackbaud Lions Den portal.
  • Maintains an orderly classroom that fosters wonder and beauty. Has the goal of using the target language 95% of the time in class to create an immersion experience for the students.
  • Participates in Thursday morning devotions and meetings. 
  • Capable of working independently.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates punctuality and reliability.
  • Attends and supervises weekly school chapels and seasonal retreats/field trips.
  • Implements strategies to advance and improve student performance.
  • Provides appropriate accommodation and modifications to student programs based on individual student needs. 
  • Participates in professional development activities to improve instruction and program delivery.
  • Regularly integrates Biblical principles into daily plans.


Requirements
  • Ideal candidates will have experience teaching at least one year of ASL between grades 8-12. Preference will be given to candidates who have previous teaching experience. 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in ASL or a related field within languages
