Description

The primary responsibility of this position is to assist the project team in producing projects of high technical quality, on time, and within budget. In this position, the employee will assist the Project Manager or Project Engineer(s) in the design of mechanical building systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR), hydronic, plumbing, and fire protection systems. The employee may also assist in technical studies, investigations, reports, and system commissioning.

  • Prepare mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection construction documents in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Perform (primarily computer-based) heating and cooling load calculations for building systems.
  • Select and layout mechanical equipment.
  • Prepare material, construction, and equipment specifications.
  • Review equipment shop drawings/submittals. 
  • Perform site visits to survey existing building systems or monitor construction progress based on design specifications, owner expectations, and building codes. 
  • Participate in the commissioning process to ensure mechanical systems work as intended by the original design. 
  • Prepare condition assessments and reports.
  • Assist in preparation of proposals, submittals, and bidding documents.
  • Coordinate and communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally internally with team, project leader, other SKA disciplines, as well as externally with consultants, contractors, architects, and owners. 
  • Select appropriate equipment for projects through selection software and coordinate with equipment vendors.  
  • Attend design coordination meetings with team members and clients, as necessary.
  • Demonstrate a desire to advance technical and project management knowledge and skills.
  • Actively participate in professional organizations where the technical reputation and image of the firm may be enhanced.
  • Employee must be able to travel to jobsites as needed, 10% to 20% of the time, including overnight periodically.
Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year college or university. Relevant internship(s) and/or experience preferred. Basic understanding of the architectural, engineering and construction industry, as well as introductory knowledge of code compliance requirements and industry standards, is preferred.


Certifications, Licenses, Registrations 

Valid driver's license. Engineering Intern (E.I.) certification. Must be able to complete required OSHA training.


Computer Skills 

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Internet. Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and HAP is preferred. Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu is a plus.
