Description

In this position, the employee will perform technical activities required on projects by designing and analyzing building structures, communicating the design with structural drawings, performing construction administration tasks, and coordinating throughout the design and construction phases. 

  • Participate in the management of structural projects and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and of a high technical quality; demonstrate a desire to advance technical and project management knowledge and skills. 
  • Assist with production of drawings both using drafting/modeling software and through communication with drafters and designers.
  • Generate creative solutions; translate concepts and information into images; use feedback to modify and apply design principals and demonstrate a high level of attention to detail. Maintain high quality and uniform standards.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates and specifications.
  • Participate in the development and review of construction documents including but not limited to drawings, submittals, geotechnical reports, and proposals to ensure accuracy and conformance with design. 
  • Attend design coordination meetings with team members and client representatives, as necessary.
  • Coordinate and communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally internally with team members and other SKA disciplines along with external consultants, engineers, architects, contractors, clients, and owners.
  • Coordinate and assist with field measurements, data collection, field reports, field observation and/or site inspections.
  • Follow up with field observation reports and visit construction sites.
  • Provide assistance to marketing and business development in responding to RFQ’s, including interviews, resumes, and presentations.
  • Assist in the training, mentoring and development of less experienced team members. 
  • Participate in peer reviews.
  • Actively participate in professional organizations where the technical reputation and image of the firm may be enhanced.
  • Employee must be able to travel to jobsites as needed, up to 20% of the time, including overnight periodically.
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (structural major) from four-year college or university with at least five years of direct structural engineering experience, preferably in a consulting engineering firm. Post graduate degree preferred. Experience in structural steel, wood, masonry, light gage metal framing and/or reinforced concrete framed building design. Must have proficient knowledge of design standards, building codes, and construction documents, practices, terminology, and materials. 


Certifications, Licenses, Registrations 

Professional Engineer (P.E.) and/or Structural Engineer (S.E.) license; must have a valid driver's license with the ability to complete required OSHA training.  


Computer and Software Skills 

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Internet. Must be knowledgeable of construction document delivery software, such as AutoCAD and Revit, as well as, engineering design and analysis software programs, such as RISA and RAM. Familiarity with Bluebeam is a plus.
