Description

The Applied Data Scientist will define and lead efforts around collecting and leveraging data using analytical, statistical, and programming skills to explore complex problems and maximize the use of data for New Classrooms’ program improvements. This position will help ensure that we develop and improve our systems for capturing and maintaining high quality, useful data. The Applied Data Scientist will also be responsible for using data visualization tools to present results and insights in a clear and compelling way for both internal and external audiences to help teams analyze trends and make better decisions. 


This position is a great opportunity for someone with strong technical skills and intellectual curiosity who is looking to leverage these skills and further develop in the area of strategic application of data. This position will collaborate with a dynamic team of designers, engineers and program experts working at the heart of New Classroom’s research and learning agenda. As part of a small but mighty Insights & Analytics team, this position will touch all aspects of data analysis and will have the ability to shape New Classrooms’ analytics practices for greater consistency and scalability in the future. 


What you Would Do 

  • Organize and curate a robust data repository to support analytic and reporting needs, to meet strategic and operational goals 
  • Contribute to development of AI/ML solutions to enhance our products and help us learn from our data 
  • Collaborate with team members across our organization to understand data needs, produce analyses and reports, and document relevant queries and technical approaches to maximize maintainability and support
  • Lead multiple simultaneous efforts of exploration, experimentation and performance of analytics in service of organizational goals, including leveraging machine learning and predictive analytics techniques
  • Identify and produce appropriate data visualizations to enable strategic decision making across the organization

  • Verbal and Written Communication: Communication is critical to the success of this role - effectively listening to and understand the data needs of colleagues; being inquisitive about program challenges; communicating regularly with all stakeholders on status and progress; sharing insights effectively for both technical and non-technical audiences; and documenting analytic work processes clearly and completely, allowing for collaboration and quality management

What We are Looking For 

  • 5+ years of experience with increasing responsibility in fast paced data analytics environments, ideally with experience independently driving analytics projects
  • Proven experience with data wrangling and the ability to handle imperfections in data or incomplete, uncurated data sources
  • Strong knowledge and experience in statistics, machine learning, AI and predictive analytics
  • Pragmatic approach, engaging in tasks at all levels of the data analytics value chain (source, transform, analyze, visualize, communicate, document, archive)
  • Experience with PowerBI/DAX (or other Business Intelligence tools):
    • Working with data warehouse objects, including schema and relational tables 
    • Creating and managing analytic and data models, including complex relationships, calculated tables and measures, hierarchies and KPIs
    • Delivering rich, interactive data experiences to business users using reports and dashboards created with PowerBI/DAX
  • Experience with relevant programming packages, including both R and Python
    • Nice to have: experience building deep learning models using tensor library like PyTorch or Tensorflow
  • Software development experience within a collaborative environment
    • Creating and using virtual python virtual environments
    • Using and contributing to Git repositories
  • Nice to have: ability to read and assess relevance of research papers to technical problems
  • Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment

Role Classification and Benefits

This role is full-time, with a salary range of $80,000-$110,000, and includes benefits such as rich medical, dental, and vision insurance, 42 paid days off per year (prorated for the period in which you work), paid parental leave, a professional development budget of $375 annually and a quarterly cell phone subsidy.
