Position
The Underwriter is a salaried, exempt position that reports to Director of Risk. The Underwriter is responsible for implementing our credit policy and managing the quality of the loan portfolio.
Salary and Benefits Information
The salary range for this position is $60,000 – $70,000, commensurate with experience and skills. Essential Duties
- Approve loans, exceptions, collateral release requests, payment date changes, and loan restructures within the authority outlined in policy
- Manage quality of the portfolio by annually charging off less than the budgeted proportion of dollars lent and maintaining delinquencies within approved thresholds
- Approve settlement offers and manage external collection communications and approvals
- Analyze the portfolio data on a regular basis to determine what, if any, changes should be made to policy to ensure strong portfolio performance
- Answer risk and underwriting-related questions from internal team members to ensure strong interdepartmental communication
Detailed Responsibilities
- Manage risk for the organization by establishing and executing sound policies, procedures, and reporting for extending credit
- Improve underwriting process and procedures based on entrepreneur, internal team, and underwriter input
- Identify and implement improvements in our underwriting operations
- Mitigate risks associated with new products and services prior to implementation
- Respond to portfolio and market trends by improving policy in partnership with the CEO and the Director of Risk
- Assign funding sources for loans strategically
- Monitor non-performing loans and work with the Community Lending team, our loan servicer, and collections agencies to find the best outcome for the organization and our clients
- Support an effective Risk team by working efficiently in the review of loans, bringing concerns to a manager in a timely manner, and identifying areas of improvement for the department
- Work from the A4CB office each Wednesday and on other days as agreed upon with the Director of Risk
- Perform other duties flexibly and creatively as needs arise
