Jewish Family and Children’s Services (JFCS) is the oldest non-profit in California and has been assisting residents of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin, and Sonoma Counties since it was founded in 1850. POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Government Relations Coordinator is responsible for assisting in support of diverse initiatives in cooperation with Jewish Family and Children’s Services, the State of California and in cooperation with other organizations statewide involved in Holocaust and genocide education. A primary responsibility will be to provide staff support to the Governor’s Council for Holocaust and Genocide Education (“the Council” in cooperation with the Governor’s office staff and with the co-chairs of the Council and its members.
The Government Relations Coordinator understands and assists in meeting the mission, service and budget goals of Jewish Family and Children’s Services and works within the limitations of the Agency’s resources and performs all duties in compliance with agency standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with JFCS key staff to achieve Holocaust and Genocide education goals.
- Is assigned to support the work of the Governor’s Office staff for the Governor’s Council for Holocaust and Genocide education.
- Understands and works to achieve the vision, mission, and charge of the Governor’s Council.
- Works to help design and implement the research survey as charged by the Council.
- Oversees implementation of the statewide survey and assists in the development of the survey research results in cooperation with the Council.
- Helps to develop Council recommendations for implementation of survey results.
- Ensures regular Council meeting schedule, production of minutes, and work with Council members to support their involvement.
- Complies with the Jewish Family and Children’s Services Policy and Procedures Manual, as well as agency health and safety standards for clients, employees, and the facility.
- Undertakes other duties, special projects, and other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director, Governor’s Council Staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in relevant field, Master’s degree preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years” experience working in coalition with other agencies and organizations to achieve policy objectives, or 3 years in public policy, advocacy work coalition building and/or government. Knowledgeable about local, state and federal government operations and experienced in the legislative process is required.
- Experience working on human services and education issues and knowledge of agencies advocating for these issues strongly preferred.
- Outstanding writing and oral communication skills, including public speaking.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Previous experience in successfully engaging with elected officials, government employees, thought leaders, academics, donors and other professionals in the human services and education fields.
- Must be proficient in MS Office and Outlook.
