Job Purpose
The Senior Sustainability Manager will provide sustainable design project management and third-party certification efforts. The Senior Sustainability Manager will serve as a subject matter expert on green building, sustainability, and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions for the company and clients.
The successful candidate will be a project manager for green building and sustainability projects, staff oversight, and support business development. The position reports to the Sustainability Deputy Director and is based in the home office.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead major sustainability projects, including maintaining schedule, budget, client relationships, and managing project elements including tracking project milestones and prepare project manager reports; and supervising preparation of deliverables and ensuring quality control.
- Manage multiple staff and mentor junior staff in technical, administrative, client management, and business development skills.
- Skilled in developing sustainability goals for projects; developing goals and design strategies, researching technical criteria and data to support design decisions and integration of strategies for achieving high performance design.
- Participate in project team meetings to facilitate intra-disciplinary and interdisciplinary communication and collaboration.
- Lead business development initiatives, including proposal preparation and facilitating teaming.
- Perform significant client contact and coordination with other consultants, individuals must have demonstrated ability to work towards consensus on difficult issues.
- Possess strong organizational skills, including the ability to track and manage multiple tasks and priorities, as well as the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Assist in the development of the Sustainability group as a team, fostering professional camaraderie, identifying opportunities for growth/expansion, and leading hiring efforts.
- Develop relationships with internal and external clients through personal contacts, participation in conferences and presentations.
- Maintain significant professional qualifications and participate in appropriate professional organization activities.
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in in engineering, architecture, environmental, sustainability or closely related field
Experience:
- minimum of 7 years' of experience
- LEED Accredited Professional with Specialty
- Experience managing LEED projects with a minimum of fifteen (15) completed LEED certifications
- Familiarity with other third-party green certification systems (Green Globes, WELL, Fitwel, Guiding Principles for Federal Leadership in High Performance and Sustainable Buildings)
- Proficient knowledge of design process and documentation developed for design phases
- Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and evaluating sustainable design concepts and strategies
- An understanding of carbon management in the built environment
- Effective project management skills, task management and follow-through
- Adept change agent dedicated to improving processes
- Experience with proposal development
- Strong written and oral communication skills (presentation/training ability)
- Proficient with Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Adobe Suite
- Demonstrated active involvement in professional organizations
Desired Qualifications
- Green Globes, WELL AP or other rating system accredited professional preferred
- Experience implementing and documenting the federal Guiding Principles program
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, or Bluebeam
- Proficiency with EC3 Tool or other embodied carbon management tools
