Description
The Personal Aide (PA) will assist a first grade student in a one to one capacity throughout the school day. The PA will support the student by providing targeted interventions so that the student can further develop self-regulation skills to more consistently:
- Participate in classroom routines and procedures safely
- Engage in positive peer interactions
- Become aware of how to engage and participate in a school community
The goal of the PA is to facilitate and scaffold opportunities for the student to grow and progress towards the aforementioned goals, with the eventual goal of a functional level of independence.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Has experience working with elementary school/early childhood students
- Has training and/or direct experience in supporting students with regulation (ex: Social Thinking, Alert Curriculum, Zones of Regulation)
- Lesson planning experience, specifically in ways to differentiate instruction and breaking down directions and tasks to meet the needs of diverse learners
- *preferred* - familiarity with functional behavior assessments
- *preferred* - experience working with students with autism
Responsibilities:
- Support the student throughout the day (this could be 1:1, working within a small group or participating in a whole class lesson)
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and off-site specialists by:
- Sharing consistent updates and feedback on progress via agreed upon communication tools and protocols
- Serve as a conduit of information from school to home and vice versa
