Internship summary: C2ES’s international work includes engaging with policymakers in the United States and other countries; convening informal discussions among key stakeholders; deep dives into policy areas related to international climate change issues; and organizing conferences, workshops, and briefings on international climate policy developments.
C2ES seeks a student interested in complementing their studies by deepening his or her knowledge of international climate policy through on-the-job skill development. The intern will report to the Associate Director of International Strategies and support the work of the international team. This internship offers students the opportunity to expand on their studies in a work setting and learn from the C2ES international team.
Responsibilities and duties include:
- Conduct research and analysis of international climate policy issues
- Participate in the preparations for C2ES's convening, workshops, briefings, etc., including through coordinating, organizing, or managing logistics
- Write at least one C2ES blog and contribute to publications such as blogs, workshop papers, briefs, and web content as needed
- Attend and summarize relevant webinars and any in-person local events by other think tanks, advocacy groups, federal agencies, and international governmental organizations
- DEI expectations – All staff are expected to participate in monthly DEI All staff meetings. During these meetings staff are able to interact and learn about different topics provided by the JEDI council.
- Demonstrate commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
Qualifications and skills:
- Completed a bachelor’s degree or higher (with a preference given to graduate students) in a field related to the work of C2ES
- Familiarity with international environmental agreements, particularly the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement
- Strong writing, editing, research, and analytic skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence
- Multicultural awareness and experience in multicultural settings
- Excellent problem-solving skills with an eye toward solutions
- Willingness to learn and pitch in
- Ability to work independently while responsive to oversight and guidance
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- English fluency; other languages a strong plus
Time commitment:
- Part-time for summer 2023 (May through August), ideally with an extension up to a full year
,(summer 2023 to spring 2024), subject to availability and mutual agreement.
Compensation:
- This internship will be paid
- This internship does not constitute employment by C2ES.
Travel and location requirements:
- The successful candidate will be expected to either work at our office in Washington DC, to work remotely or a combination of both. Remote candidates will be considered if located in the following states: VA, MD, DC, NY, PA, CT, MA, MI, IL, WA, CA, NC, OH.
- Work travel not expected, but may be supported in some circumstances
