Job Summary: 

As the Manager of Safety & Security, you are primarily responsible for safeguarding the Museum’s staff, visitors, property, and art through the oversight of the 24/7/365 Security Team and its daily operations. In this position, you will develop a safety and hospitality-oriented team that actively engages with visitors and staff to effectively solve problems to safeguard the campus and guarantee Philbrook is a safe, welcoming, accessible, and inclusive venue. This position includes supervisory responsibility for the Assistant Manager of Safety & Security and a team of full-time and part-time Security Officers.  The Manager of Safety & Security will build strong relationships with colleagues across the institution by communicating proactively and maintaining a professional demeanor and positive attitude. Will also maintain prompt and reliable attendance to successfully perform the duties of the job.


What You Will Do:

Staff Development and Supervision

  • Manage, recruit, hire, and train a team of Security Officers to assure productivity, efficiency, and continuous improvement. 
  • Monitor and evaluate performance and provide coaching, training, recognition, and corrective actions as needed. Assure equitable administration of Philbrook policies. 
  • Oversee Assistant Manager of Safety & Security to ensure appropriate scheduling of staff for normal operations and after-hours programs and events. 
  • Develop and facilitate a training program to assure all Security personnel are properly trained on Museum and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Emergency Preparedness and Management
  • Evaluate existing and implement needed safety and security policies, work methods or procedures governing Museum security functions.
  • Initiate and lead emergency response procedures, when needed. 

Systems Management

  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of all security technology, access control, alarms, cameras, motion detection, fire systems, and radios throughout the facility and conduct regular tests/inspections of equipment. 
  • Conduct regular key audits and equipment inventory checks. 

Safety and Compliance

  • Develop and direct, or arrange, appropriate staff training, including but not limited to fire drills, weather preparedness, CPR, injury incident response, artwork damage response, de-escalation and conflict resolution. 
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, legal regulations and general art insurance requirements and coordinate with local government agencies, emergency response departments, and insurance representatives as needed. 
  • Lead regular inspections of the facility. 

Cross Departmental Collaboration

  • Advise departments across the institution during program/event planning to ensure safety and security functions at events and programs. 
  • Work closely with frontline managers to consider security operations within the context of an outstanding visitor experience and to ensure coverage of entrances when doors are unlocked.
  • Manage Incident Reporting by preparing timely and adequate incident reports thoroughly appropriate investigation and documentation.   

Budget Management

  • Assist with budget development and management. 
  • Develop inventory of future capital needs and improvements related to security and safety.
Requirements

  

What You Will Bring:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent, combined with 5 years of supervisory experience in security, safety or law enforcement, or emergency management with a proven record of strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in the field of protection of high-value or cultural property is highly desirable.
  • Must be certified in First Aid and CPR by the American Red Cross or be able to acquire this certification within 90 days of hire date.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities: 

  • Must be a self-starter, organized, collaborative, able to multi-task and prioritize, and have strong people management skills.
  • Requires excellent judgment and problem-solving skills as well as strong communication, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent conflict-resolution and de-escalation abilities.
  • Proven experience in customer service and knowledge of security and emergency protocols.
  • Proven experience implementing safety and security procedures. 
  • Knowledge of training and teaching safety and security techniques.
  • Position requires ability to pass federal, state and city security clearances.
