POSITION OVERVIEW: The Financial Accountant is responsible for overseeing the financials for a portfolio of entities. They will monitor transactions posted, reconcile supporting schedules to account balances on the financial statements, post general ledger entries, and compile the monthly financial statements. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete bank reconciliations and deposit receipts 
  • Enter invoices and cut checks on a limited basis
  • Work closely with Property and Fund Accounting teams
  • Monitor revenue/expense activity and make corrections 
  • Process and track accounts receivable
  • Post journal entries
  • Tie out account balances to supporting schedules
  • Monitors accounting procedures and internal controls to ensure compliance with regulations and business contracts
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for multiple entities
  • Explain financial statement activity as necessary
  • Monitor corporate credit card activity and report fraud
  • Calculate legal billing time and monitor billing rates
  • Prepare 1099s
  • Create year-end financial packages

  

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: This position reports to the Accounting Manager.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • One to two years experience in accounting related field
  • A general real estate background is desirable, but not required
  • Experience with Yardi software is a plus

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Proficiency in the use of 10-key calculator, personal computers, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and accounting software
  • Ability to analyze financial statements is required
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in a business environment
  • Well-developed organizational skills. Ability to prioritize duties and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work successfully as part of a team environment
  • Ability to work well under pressure, with daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a service-oriented background and mentality 

EDUCATION

  • An Associate degree in Accounting is required. A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or closely related field is a plus
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to operate office machinery; including but not limited to: telephone, computer, adding machine, copy machine, fax machine, scanner, printer, etc.
  • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds on occasion

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Office setting, open cubicles, quiet to moderate noise levels.
