Job Summary

Synapse ITS is looking for an energetic and results-driven Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) to lead our global sales and marketing operations across the platform. As the CCO, you will be responsible for structuring, developing, and leading a high-performing sales and marketing operation that is able to secure new business, maintain and expand current customer expenditure, and produce channel partner income from a worldwide high-end and corporate customer base. You’ll be held accountable for building cross-functional integration of marketing, sales, and customer support to deliver a strong and favorable customer experience. With your leadership, you’ll build the platform's capacity and infrastructure to implement and achieve the company’s priorities effectively. You will also build rapport and collaborate effectively with leadership teams across the platform businesses while fostering an environment of open communication and trust. Reporting directly to our CEO and Board of Directors (BOD), you will collaborate and create opportunities (both organic and inorganic) that add value through synergizing the different platform businesses.

Essential Job Functions

  • Drive the development and execution of platform-wide business commercialization strategy, including pricing strategy, to maximize revenue and profitability.
  • Play a key role in commercially integrating accretive, add-on acquisitions. Lead commercial diligence with any new potential acquisitions.
  • Build the platform commercialization infrastructure and organization to drive market adoption of the company’s solutions and ensure revenue growth within the organizations (Solutions include our traffic monitoring and communication devices as well as our data/cloud offering.)
  • Experience working with DAAS subscription sales processes
  • Engage with each business unit on their respective plans, formalize alignment of the platform strategy and process through establishing KPIs and timelines for the achievement of certain milestones, and continuously review the sales performance of each individual business in each key region.
  • Coordinate directly with the business unit leaders around their respective growth, foundational, engineering/NPI, and human capital practices to ensure alignment and the implementation of a common cadence.
  • Build and manage relationships with key customers and partners, identify and develop partnering opportunities to enhance market reach, and analyze market trends and customer behavior to identify new business opportunities.
  • Guide multi-brand strategy both internally and externally in all aspects. Identify appropriate new methods and venues with growth opportunities. 
  • Take a global perspective on market opportunities and lead in the assessment and prioritization of the same - geographic as well as between different market segments. Provision of market intelligence to support strategic business decisions on feature development of existing and new data analytics solutions.
  • Facilitate the coordination of cross-business teams for common platform initiatives/projects to ensure engagement as well as drive the ultimate timelines and results.
  • Own the customization and implementation of systems as needed to drive desired outcomes and be willing to roll up your sleeves in architecting and implementing such systems and processes and ensuring consistent utilization of CRM tools.
  • Develop and implement Synapse platform-level marketing messages, trade show approach and participation, advertising, and promotion approach (both digital and print), and media engagement plan. Define and implement a platform-wide lead-sharing and opportunity-tracking approach.
  • Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of marketing, brand building, and product launch strategies to maximize sales of products globally.
  • Leads brand architecture and management. Explores new and innovative digital marketing channels to successfully grow platform businesses. Increases awareness among target audiences through owned, paid, earned, and social media channels with a strong focus on ROI.
  • Develop and lead platform channel strategy that enhances the value proposition of customers, while continuously assessing risk mitigation (direct and perceived). 
  • Develops short and long-range platform cross-selling strategy that increases the bottom line and increases customer lifetime value (CLTV). 
  • Define sales comp plans which ensure there are incentives for cross-platform collaboration among the individual sales teams. Define sales/channel management personnel recruiting approach, with a strong definition of both currently needed skills and the growth potential to succeed with more integrated and s/w centric future offerings. Define and implement channel partner rating/KPI system and develop performance improvement plans for underperforming partners. Periodically review the potential for hybrid or direct sales models for specific offerings.
  • Define and implement support KPIs for each Synapse company, including dealer support performance and Synapse support performance. Define hiring criteria for field support personnel to ensure that this key customer-facing role is staffed effectively. Define and implement an approach to coordinating and prioritizing between Sales and Support to ensure that the highest priority issues are addressed first. Develop a cross-training program for support personnel to provide “flex” capacity at the Platform level.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, finance, or a related field, or a related field. MBA or an advanced degree in business, or related disciplines is preferred.

  • 10+ years of commercial leadership experience, including new product planning, marketing, market analysis, and sales leadership experience.
  • Previous Private Equity Portfolio Company experience highly preferred. 
  • A strategic/analytical and results-driven thinker with the ability to plan, direct, and lead a robust commercial organization.
  • Proven ability to operate across all disciplines managing multiple deliverables against deadlines.
  • Demonstrable track record of how access to the right information leads to greater efficiencies. Ensuring appropriate governance structures are in place to facilitate quick but robust decision-making.
  • Experience owning and managing a P&L, including an awareness of financial reporting tools and utilizing these.
  • Track record of driving revenue growth and profitability in previous roles
  • Experience developing and using dashboards and tracking metrics (KPIs) to help stakeholders monitor their performance and focus on the key drivers of the business.
  • Demonstrated experience in hiring, developing, and managing commercial teams, including sales, marketing, and customer service
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with the leadership team, board members, and external partners. Strong board leadership understanding and experience in managing board relations and associated deliverables.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of commercial compliance and all laws and regulations that govern promotional and non-promotional activities.
