Visitor Services Associate
Description

ASI is looking for a part-time Visitor Services Associate to join our team. We are looking for someone who embodies the mission, vision, and values of ASI and lives them on a daily basis. Our ideal candidate will display the following values and skills:

This is a part-time position and hours will vary including weekends, evenings, and special event shifts.


The American Swedish Institute is a gathering place for all people to share experiences around themes of culture, migration, the environment, and the arts, informed by enduring links to Sweden. The American Swedish Institute and the historic Turnblad Mansion have been mainstays for cultural education and engagement in Minneapolis since 1929.

Requirements

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Visitor Services Associate is responsible for providing superior customer service to ASI visitors at the front desk as well as facilitating admissions, performing reception duties and managing registrations. The Visitor Services Associate will work as a part of the Visitor Services team and is an integral part of helping make the American Swedish Institute a gathering place for all people. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • Provide friendly, professional, and quick service to all people who contact ASI. 
  • Demonstrate ASI’s value of radical hospitality at all times. 

ADMISSIONS 

  • Responsible for accurate and friendly sale of museum admissions to visitors.
  • Manage admissions cash drawers by counting cash at the beginning and end of each workday.
  • Assist admissions volunteers by training and troubleshooting the Altru database as needed.

RECEPTION

  • Answer calls from the main switchboard; transfer calls to appropriate person, page employees if necessary and accurately takes messages.
  • Greet visitors and volunteers in a friendly and helpful manner, and direct them to appropriate person or location.
  • Provide information to visitors as requested, including class schedules and information about upcoming events. 

REGISTRATIONS

  • Enter class and event registrations in Altru software, while maintaining accurate and complete records of registrations, admissions and payment information. 
  • Provide friendly and helpful service to the public when taking registrations.
  • Prepare reports on class and program registration using database reporting tools. Alert supervisor of any situations or special requests that may arise.
  • Check-in guests and greet folks who are arriving to special events, parties, or other activities on ASI property outside museum hours.

TECHNOLOGY

  • Capacity to navigate multiple applications and software at one time.
  • Adept at typing quickly, while talking or on the phone without looking at keyboard.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technology and changing technology
  • Comfortable problem-solving technology issues with visitors experiencing technical issues regarding virtual classes.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Proficiency in computer database applications
  • Skilled with technology; working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite
  • Ability to communicate large amounts of information in English and sit/stand for extended periods
  • 2+ years customer service experience
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
  • Strong verbal, written and problem solving skills
  • Hours for this position will vary, and include weekend, evening and special events shifts.

Salary Description
$15.12 per hour
