Description
The State Tested Nursing Assistant assists with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to patients and assists in maintenance of a safe environment under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse in charge of the team and/or unit.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with providing comprehensive nursing care including the following: pre and post-operative preparation, positioning of patients, ambulation of patients, dietary needs, including feeding of patients, AM and PM care, admission, discharge, and transfer of patients, care of patient belongings, and ability to perform all unit receptionist duties
- Assist with patient teaching within the scope of knowledge as direct by the nurse
- Knowledge and understanding of treatment and procedures in patient care
- Maintain a safe environment for patient care related to equipment, bed rails and mental status
- Knowledge of the provision of quality patient care
- Avoid and prevent injury to self and patients by applying principles of body mechanics
- Report all unusual incidents to the appropriate person and significant changes in patient condition to the registered nurse or team leader
- Demonstrate the ability to accurately determine patients’ vital signs
- Document patient care in the EMR
- Understand and abide by all departmental and hospital policy and procedures
- Attend scheduled and mandatory in-services
- Comply with JCAHO/ODH/CMS standards specific to the position
- Knowledge of the hospital safety program, emergency codes and emergency preparedness procedures
- Maintain the department in a neat, clean and orderly manner eliminating any seen or known hazards
- Knowledge and compliance with standard and transmission-based precautions
Requirements
- ODH State Certification Required
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology
- Previous experience in an acute care hospital or physician’s office preferred
- BLS upon hire and maintain current
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must be able to prioritize tasks
- Must be able to handle stress of working efficiently with frequent interruptions and distractions
- Must be highly motivated and willing to assume additional jobs and duties as needed
- Strong computer skills to include EMR and Microsoft Outlook
- Ability to accurately determine patients’ vital signs
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent Sitting, standing and walking
- Occasionally reaching, bending, pulling, pushing, twisting and squatting
- Occasional hand and wrist deviation
- Occasionally lift/carry up to 50 pounds
- Occasionally be exposed to hazardous chemicals or infections and Ionizing radiation
- Occasionally required to wear Personal Protective Equipment
