MASS MoCA’s Performing Arts Department seeks to grow its pool of skilled on-call/temporary Venue and Artist Services assistants to assist in the production and operations of large-scale events and concerts throughout the year. At the direction of the Performing Arts staff, the on-call/temporary Venue and Artist Services staff assist in the oversight of the audience, venues and visiting artists for MASS MoCA performances and events. 

The position is a temporary hourly position that will work alongside the full time production and festival staff to supplement the team’s needs, working to ensure the safe entry and exit of audience members from MASS MoCA venues, as well as monitors theater capacities and maintains proper egress throughout performances. Artist Service assistants may also work with Performing Arts Staff on facilitating the logistics and experiences of visiting artists at MASS MoCA. 

Duties include assisting with administrative duties, artist housing, catering, transport, running errands as needed, and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Excellent work ethic, craftsmanship, practical problem-solving, creative thinking, embracing collaborative practice, and understanding of team spirit 
• The ability to communicate clearly with colleagues, collaborators, and artists 
• A high level of professional consideration when interacting with visiting artists and staff
• Preferred: A valid driver’s license (if needed) and may be asked to drive, load/unload and pack various straight trucks from 16 to 40ft.
• Certain positions may require that the candidate be certified to safely operate, Genie, Condor and Scissor lifts.
• The most competitive candidate will have experience working with artists to realize their vision. 

Work Conditions 

• Some duties of this position require being able to work outside, potentially in inclement weather for extended periods of time
• This position requires ability to work a flexible schedule, with availability on weekends, evenings and holidays, for events, programs, and festivals, including those after museum hours
• This position may require work in dimly lit areas, and/or may be subject to strobe lights or other photo sensitive situations

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit for extended periods of time with limited break
• Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arm, and reach above shoulder height
• The employee is regularly required to climb or balance, squat, kneel, and crouch. 
• The employee must regularly be able to lift and/or move up to 50+ pounds and move heavy objects as required.
• Ability to climb ladders and operate mechanical lifts and power tools
• Ability, mobility, and license to drive a motor vehicle
• Acute vision, hearing, voice, smell, and sense of touch
• Employee is required to move about their work area, between buildings and the campus grounds, ascend and descend stairs
• Must be able to wear PPE when necessary

Non-exempt. Minimum starting rate $16.25/hour
