Job Purpose

The Process Engineering Technician is expected to continuously support all customers (internal and external) with accurate tool qualifications and production material measurements. The position is responsible for promoting quality, standardization, and process control, utilizing best known methods and procedures to assure accurate and repeatable measurement. The role is also responsible for rigorous production sustaining and ensuring WIP movement through the factory. Lastly, the Metrology Process Engineering Technician is responsible for training of designated stakeholders to promote 24/7 operations.

Recipes & Wafer Processing

  • Supports creation, adjustments and/or verification of metrology recipes to support product development, including metrology measurement matching, traceability to calibration standards and correlation to reference standards and cross section SEM.
  • Perform troubleshooting of defect source and/or measurement analysis/failures to support process control and product quality
  • Work closely with process engineers and integration engineers to understand specifications and deliver measurement solutions
  • Respond to inquiries or requests from process or integration engineers

Tool Management

  • Perform process tool qualifications based on set up instructions
  • Conduct tool troubleshooting/system recoveries when process failures occur. Follow Out-of-Control Action Plan to resolve common failure modes
  • Monitor tool health and notify maintenance / tool owners when errors occur
  • Calibrate robots to correct handling issues

Training & Documentation

  • Train operator and other technicians on process tool operation
  • Create/update operations, recipe creation, and tool recovery documentation 
  • Provide detailed pass-down to other shifts, process engineering and integration teams

Manufacturing Operations Assistance

  • Run product through metrology tools.
  • Setup measurement recipes, including wafer map set up and across wafer sampling using measurement systems including, microscopes, bright light, CDSEM, AFM, Ellipsometry / Spectral Analysis, Resistance measurement, Wafer bow / film stress, Optical Overlay, etc. 
  • Supports priorities of product flow through processing area at the direction of operations leadership
  • Perform tool setup for various mode changes

Work Environment

Roughly 90% of day is spent in the Fab, which a temperature-controlled cleanroom environment that requires the use of a full-body gown, over-boots, over-hood, safety glasses, and ESD equipment. Frequent gowning and de-gowning is required. Frequent interruptions, static noise, and alarms (auditory and flashing lights) can be expected.


Physical Demands

  • Constantly in a stationary position, often sitting and/or standing for prolonged periods 
  • Constantly viewing a computer monitor for prolonged periods 
  • Frequently walking around the Fab for prolonged periods 
  • Occasionally required to push and/or pull 40+ lbs objects, such as tool components
  • Frequently required to lift 40+ lbs and occasionally carry that amount short distances 
  • Frequently required reach, bend, twist, squat, kneel, and stoop to access and work on tools in the Fab
  • May often require repetitive motions involving the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Frequently required to handle items using small ranges of motion (e.g. fingers and hands) and large ranges of motion (e.g., full-arms and shoulders) for carrying cassettes and lot boxes

Required Education and Experience

  • Associate degree, or equivalent
  • Familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, JMP, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Strong quality focused mindset

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor degree 
  • 5 years’ experience in semiconductor industry
  • Experience in research and development


Salary Description
$22.00 - $35.00/hr
