POSITION SUMMARY

Benedictine College Department of Theatre and Dance is currently accepting applications for a Technical Director in a part-time position for the 2023-2024 academic year. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing student work in the Scene Shop and will be responsible for the implementation of all department theatre productions as related to scenery.


Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Instructor of Record for the studio course Production Arts (and possibly Stagecraft and Scenic Design if applicant has a graduate level degree). Serve as department Technical Director for approximately 20 hours/week with the additional requirement of attending all technical rehearsals for up to four productions a year. Duties may also include budgeting and purchasing construction materials. There may be additional opportunities to Scenic Design one production a year based on the candidate’s experience.

Requirements

Competency Statement(s)

  • Candidates must have proven professional and/or academic experience in set construction, including the ability to guide students in the set construction process, and budgeting and purchasing construction materials.

Education

  • B.A. in Theatre with proven experience in set construction. M.F.A. or M.A. in theatre or related field preferred.

Experience

  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the related area of Scenic Design as well as experience with lighting and sound equipment.
