Project Engineer

Provide project engineering support to the organization through the design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and/or systems for assigned projects. Assist with technical development and review of pre-construction deliverables, technical review of material and equipment submittals, shop drawings and designs, and schedule updates and invoicing.

Overall Responsibilities and Duties (Essential Functions) in Support of the Project Management Team:

  • Work with the project team to ensure completion of all submittal requirements for the project. Includes review, annotation, and validation or rejection of submittals.
  • Coordinate and ensure the exchange of documents between CMS, subcontractors, suppliers, and the Government, ensuring submittals are filed as received and as transmitted.
  • Follow up on submittals and track submittals such as, for product data, Request for Information (RFI) logs, close-out records, warranties, as-builts, Operations and Maintenance (O&Ms), and evaluating information to ensure compliance with contract documents.
  • Assist in the preparation of project plans in accordance with applicable codes and specifications
  • Review project documents and prepare concise statements of work for subcontractors, ensuring avoidance of scope gaps or overlap.
  • Assist in the resolution of design problems that may include performing field investigations or inspections followed by documenting findings and proposing technical solutions. 
  • Assist the Project Manager in collecting, analyzing, and presenting revenue & cost data for use in managing the project budget and change orders.
  • When developed in-house, ensure that all drawings and specifications are generated properly and relate to the bid documents used in developing the estimate.
  • Assess conformance to contract specifications. Work with the Project Manager to resolve any conflicts in interpretation.
  • Manage information on changes in the work; prepare an independent analysis as required; obtain and check estimates for the changes from the subcontractors
  • Assist in the production of design submission packages in accordance with various contract requirements as well as review design submissions provided by outside parties for conformance with various contract requirements
  • Coordinates with the project staff to generate shop drawings as needed.

Requirements

 

Qualifications/Job Specification: (required to facilitate responsibilities)

  • Education 
    • A  Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Civil Engineering plus a minimum of 2 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Certifications
    • Various  certifications may be required to complete the work. Participate in necessary training provided by the Company as required to obtain certifications.
  • Licenses/Registrations
    • Preferred but not required
    • Willingness to obtain registration is required
  • Other 
    • Ability to work independently with limited oversight
    • Must have a valid drivers license and be insurable under the company auto insurance

Knowledge, Skills Abilities (special skills or bodies of knowledge required):

  • Possess or develop a strong working knowledge of the specifications, codes, and technical standards/references applicable to the work.
  • Proficient in math, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant3D, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Acrobat 
  • Knowledge and ability to perform calculations quickly and accurately. 
  • Familiarity with reference materials and where/how to find information needed in professional work. 
  • Ability to professionally represent the company verbally, in writing, and in person to clients, associates and all others that may   have contact with. 
  • Ability to effectively work in a cohesive team working together to achieve project goals. 
  • Strong organizational skills to effectively manage time and resources in the most efficient manner. 
  • Self-starter proficient in organizing and completing assigned tasks within a specified time frame. 
  • Utilizes technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM)

Physical Job Demands:

The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment such as calculator, copy machine, plotters, & printers. The person in this position frequently communicates with employees and outside vendors, and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. This position may occasionally lift, or move items up to 50 pounds. The person may be required to sit or stand regularly. The employee could be exposed to physical hazards such as high noise levels, pinch points, electricity and other sources of energy, etc. and must be proficient in identifying hazards and selecting and using appropriate engineering controls and/or personal protective equipment (PPE) to mitigate them and maintain a safe work environment.


Travel:

This position will require occasional local, regional, and interstate travel to client offices, project sites, and other locations as assigned. Travel to foreign countries may be involved with some projects.
