Description

  

SUMMARY:

Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing analytical and creative knowledge of safety and quality control standards, product design, sub-systems and individual parts, manufacturing processes, tooling, and assembly methods. The position works closely with all departments utilizing engineering and manufacturing skills to achieve safe and cost effective product designs and manufacturing methods in compliance with quality standards and customer expectations.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and document detailed assembly processes, work instructions and procedures from drawings, BOM's, quality standards and operating procedures
  • Review new designs for manufacturability, development of custom assembly tooling, assembly procedure composition, and manufacturing support during production and installation.
  • Design and implement assembly assist jigs, fixturing and testing equipment.
  • Designs and implements lean manufacturing methods that meet regulatory compliance and improve efficiencies for the organization
  • Analyze existing operating methods and initiate and develop new methods to improve cost and product quality.
  • Coordinates fabrication and testing activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design specifications
  • Propose engineering changes to increase manufacturability, reduce cost, and/or reduce defect rates
  • Generate redlines in coordination with manufacturing, and ensure product changes are incorporated into engineering documentation
  • Provide manufacturing support by answering engineering questions and requests
  • Provide engineering support for quality and purchasing departments assisting with material and process nonconformance reports
  • Document process controls/capabilities and suggest areas for improvement
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or minimum four years of experience improving manufacturing processes and standards

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Understands design for manufacturing principles
  • Ability to champion continuous improvement initiatives
  • Understands and able to implement lean methodologies
  • Autodesk Inventor 3D CAD knowledge; working ability with AutoCAD
  • Working knowledge of integrated systems to include electronics and mechanical assemblies
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics, BOMs, manufacturing documentation systems, and other related material
  •  Ability to communicate effectively interdepartmentally and externally with vendors
  • Ability to develop technical reports and present technical material
  • Understanding of 6-sigma principles for us in process control/capability


WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The normal work environment is typical of a business office, manufacturing laboratory, and support areas such as production, test, and stockroom.
  • The incumbent is routinely required to sit, stand, walk, touch, see, and hear. The incumbent may occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
  • While performing the regular duties of the position, the incumbent may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, and possible exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. The incumbent must be able to wear safety equipment and follow safety instructions. Must be able to work on production floor, laboratory in the field or at customer site without physical impediments. Vision correctable to 20/20 and ability to hear with corrective devices.
