Position Overview:

We are expanding our planning services in Utah and seeking a mid to senior level professional land use planner. Company-wide, J-U-B has an experienced team of certified planners (long range as well as land development), landscape architects, GIS professionals, transportation, and environmental planners, working on a wide variety of projects. This position requires an individual who is excited about being part of a high performing team and has a strong desire to support and lead a broad range of projects throughout the region. This position is intended to directly grow planning services with Utah communities. 


While working with J-U-B’s multi-disciplinary project teams, typical tasks and assignments may include:

  • Research, analyze, and prepare general plans, subarea plans, transportation plans, and other land use plans and amendments.
  • Conduct research involving a wide range of topics to support planning and development projects, including collecting, tabulating, analyzing, and interpreting statistical and factual data. 
  • Support review of land development proposals for consistency with all relevant plans, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Meet and/or facilitate technical and citizens advisory committees to present, discuss or formulate policy recommendations.
  • Present effectively to the public, planning committees and commissions, as well as local decisionmakers.
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate designations for future land use, zoning and subdivision maps, transportation systems, and other related maps and documents.
  • Prepare proposals for planning projects, create technical approaches, scopes of work, including cost proposals, and evaluate specific contract provisions.
  • Collaborate and work efficiently as a team with project managers, planners, public involvement specialists, engineers, and other subject matter experts. Possess expertise to lead project teams as needed.
  • Maintain a positive attitude of cooperation in the performance of work assignments, including adaptability, flexibility, and proactive engagement.
Requirements
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited college or university in planning, geography, community development, landscape architecture or related field, or equivalent qualifying experience. 
  • 5 + years of experience in either public or private sector planning, preparing General and Specific Plans, implementing, or preparing local land use codes or guideline, and other community development activities.
  • AICP certification is desired.
  • Strong self-motivation, team focus, and ability to push tasks to completion.
  • Strong written/speaking communication, computer, and organizational skills--including technical writing

DOE, $35-$45 perhourly
