Job Summary:
Managing overall Anatomical Pathology department: developing procedures to ensure safety, security, quality and accuracy of specimens and to assist physicians in diagnosis, and provision of quality patient care. This position supports the mission, vision and values and strategic initiative of East Ohio Regional Hospital.
Responsibilities:
- Minimum five years of Histology experience with supervisory responsibilities
- Yearly Capital budget
- Oversee the purchase of equipment and supplies needed for the department
- Ensure compliance with policies and procedures of the department and the hospital
- Provide in-service training and education on theory and practice of histotechnology
- Make recommendations for outside education and training if needed
- Maintain accurate Laboratory records
- Ensure laboratory compliance with Joint Commission Agency-maintaining records, quality assurance records, procedure manuals and passing Proficiency samples
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field with HT (ASCP), HTL (ASCP) or CT (ASCP)
- Completion of a registry exam given by a Nationally recognized certifying agency
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledgeable in Histotechnology
- Strong communication skills
- Possesses a great work ethic
- Must be proficient in grossing, cutting, identifying, embedding and sectioning tissue
- Knowledge of routine and special staining
Physical Requirements:
- Standing 4-6 hours per day
- Full use of both hands, wrist deviation (side to side and up and down) 4-6 hours per day
- Exposure to hazardous chemicals, and infectious diseases
- Occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds
