Description

The City of Oxford is seeking applicants for the position of Police Officer with a starting salary of $72,394 per year ($34.81 per hour). This salary will increase to $89,002 within 36 months of service (based on the 2023 - 2025 Patrol Unit Contract). In addition to the salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package.


This classified position requires a written exam, oral interview panel and physical agility test to establish an eligibility list.


Candidates who are currently employed or have been employed within the past 365 days (as of the written test date) as a full-time police officer in Ohio will have the physical agility test waived and will start earning the top base salary of $89,002, provided:


· The candidate has at least three (3) years of full time, continuous Police Officer experience, and;

· The candidate has a current OPOTA certification.

Requirements

Valid driver’s license; high school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s Degree preferred); U.S. Citizen with no felony convictions. Applicants must be 20 ½ years of age on or prior to the date of examination and not have passed their 36th birthday by original appointment. Those applicants who are certified and experienced Ohio Police Officers shall have a maximum age of 50. Graduate of an Ohio Police Basic Training Academy preferred but not required. Candidates must be able to pass a physical agility exam, psychological evaluation, background investigation and pre-employment physical, including vision test, hearing test and a drug screen. Applicants will also be required to pass a truth verification examination.

Applicants must successfully complete the National Testing Network’s (NTN) Frontline National Exam (minimum score of 70%) that will be used as the initial step to establish an eligibility list. Scores will be collected on the 1st business day of each month to create an eligibility list.


Additional credit for education, military service, or City of Oxford service credit will be applied to the passing scores in accordance with Rule V of the Classified Service Procedures and Personnel Appeals Board Rules and Regulations. Proof of additional credit must be turned into the Human Resources Manager, HR@cityofoxford.org,  within ten (10) business days of completion of the employment application.


To schedule a test, go to National Testing Network select Law Enforcement and sign-up for the City of Oxford Police Department. All applicants who take the test will be notified of their individual results. Applicants obtaining the minimum required score will be scheduled for the Physical Fitness Test.


The time and location for the physical fitness assessment will be provided after the application and written test phases have been completed. Police Division staff will administer the test and applicants will be required to sign a waiver in order to participate in the fitness assessment. Testing will consist of push-ups, sit-ups, and a 1.5 mile as required by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission. This test will be pass/fail and does not contribute to the overall ranking list. Candidates who fail will be removed from the eligibility list.


Candidates who are in the top 5 of the eligibility list will be interviewed and begin the background process. Additional interviews may be required. As candidates are excluded from the Eligibility List, the next viable candidates may be interviewed. Candidates are removed from the eligibility list after being on the list for one year. 


A recommendation for hire will be from the top 5 viable candidates on the Eligibility List. Once a conditional offer of employment is made, candidates will continue in the background process to include a polygraph examination, psychological exam, and medical exam.
