Description

The substitute teacher performs the instructional and classroom management processes for teachers who are absent for a day or longer periods of time. A person in this position works on an as-needed basis. The substitute teacher agrees to abide by the educational policies and procedures of the Diocese of Orlando and the Office of Catholic Schools as well as comply with the educational policies and procedures of the local school.  The substitute teacher cooperates with the principal and staff in providing an educational environment that promotes the ministry of Catholic education.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate in the creation of a Christian atmosphere in school, particularly by beginning each class period with an appropriate prayer.
  • Report to school by 7:40 A.M. 
  • Provides classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans.
  • Crates a classroom that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Maintains a safe and orderly environment.
  • Maintains established routine of the school and classroom procedures in which assigned.
  • Dress appropriately and modestly to maintain a professional image.  Jeans and casual clothing are inappropriate.
  • Remains at school the entire school day, unless otherwise instructed to leave by the principal or assistant principal.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect all students.
  • Takes all necessary protection to protect and maintain equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Handles normal discipline in the classroom which involves the development and maintenance of an orderly and productive classroom environment wherein the teacher is able to instruct, and the students are able to learn to the best of their ability. Classroom rules and procedures should emphasize respect for school, the teacher, fellow students, all staff, and self.
  • Communicates effectively with parents when needed.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated.
  • Responsible for supervision of students at assemblies.
  • If a teacher is confronted with a situation, he/she feels temporarily cannot be managed, it is wise to send the student to the Dean of Students or the Assistant Principal. Teachers should follow up as soon as possible.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

The successful candidates will possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills are required.
