On Call Substitute Teacher - Elementary and Middle School

Then you may be the right person as a Substitute School Teacher!


This is an on-call position. Selected candidates will be added to an on-call list for teachers to contact in the event of their absence.


The ideal candidate should have experience educating elementary school students, utilizing differentiated instruction working with TK – 8th Grade students in an independent school environment, experience using technology successfully in the education of students, and flexibility to review lesson plans and follow a given daily schedule for the assigned classroom.


Our educators help foster each student’s curiosity and growth to master the subjects they need to succeed. With small class sizes, Columbia Academy teachers can provide more individualized instruction.

Requirements
  • Ability to work during the hours of operation Monday-Friday, 7 AM - 6 PM, work schedule is based on business needs
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related major is required
  • Minimum of two years of teaching experience in a classroom setting is preferred
  • Thorough understanding of pedagogy and best practices in education
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience developing or implementing classroom management strategies focused on positive reinforcement and growth mindset

Additional Requirements or be willing to obtain:

  • MSDE Teaching Certificate preferred
  • Maryland EXCELS credentialing Level 4-6 or willingness to pursue
  • CPR and First Aid Training
  • Additional training courses as required

Other Qualifications

  • US citizen or current work visa
  • 18+ years of age
  • State of MD and FBI fingerprint supported background clearance
