Day Camp Counselor
Description

Position Summary: The Day Camp Counselor will work as a team with other Counselors and the Assistant Camp Director, Day Camp to develop and implement unit program. Work directly with campers to provide fun, high-quality program opportunities. Insure safety of all participants. Interacts appropriately with campers in a variety of situations using appropriate positive behavior management techniques.


Needed for one day of training (tentative date of June 12, 2024)


Monday - Friday for 5 weeks of summer camp at Camp Ledgewood at approximately 40 hours per week.

Week One: 6/17 - 6/21 

Week Two: 6/24 - 6/28 

Week Three: 7/8 - 7/12

Week Four: 7/15 - 7/19 

Week Five: 7/22 - 7/26 


Major Accountabilities:

  • Assist in the leadership and guidance of a unit under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Camp Director for Day Camp (ACDDC)
  • Participate in the general planning of the camp program
  • Work with a group of campers and help each camper adjust and grow with other campers and camp life
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of campers served
  • Interact appropriately with campers in a variety of situations, appropriately modeling behavior in a positive manner
  • Assist the ACDDC in carrying out necessary safety and health regulations
  • Assist in the guidance of individual campers in the participation of group, unit, and all camp activities
  • Assist with program activities and other activities in the unit, working closely with ACDDC
  • Assist with all camp program activities and other camp wide-activities as assigned
  • Assist in activity teaching as assigned
  • Set standards/examples of courtesy, good taste, respect, and proper manners throughout camp
  • Reports all incidents/accidents to supervisor immediately
  • Responsible for completing and returning all records to the supervisor.
  • Adhere to and uphold the safety and program standards of Girl Scouts of the United States of America, Girl Scouts of North East Ohio, and the American Camp Association standards at all times
  • As a member of Girl Scouts of the United States of America, ensure that diversity and pluralism is embraced and incorporated into the work
  • Other duties as needed to conduct a successful program
Requirements
  • Minimum age 18
  • Interest, knowledge, and skills in a variety of camp program fields
  • Youth-oriented program background a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully handle conflict resolution at all levels with a variety of people, including external customers
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to communicate the written and spoken word with tact, diplomacy, and/or authority when necessary
  • Knowledge of the Girl Scout program preferred
Salary Description
$10.45/per hour (Ohio minimum wage pay rate)
