The Controller is the senior finance and accounting leader within McKinney. They are responsible for all aspects of the finance function including budget setting, forecasting, financial reporting & analysis, compliance, risk management, and accounts payable/accounts receivable. This person will play a vital role in ensuring accurate and timely financial reports. The Controller must be a strong communicator and collaborator with all team members and able to mentor and coach the accounting and finance team helping them to become the best version they can be. This position calls for a proactive, growth-oriented mindset, emphasizing the importance of individual and collective success in contributing to McKinney’s ongoing success. In this leadership role, the Controller supervises key accounting personnel and actively fosters a culture of personal growth and team success.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations of the company, which include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk.

Responsibilities


• Lead by example with a Safety First mindset in every task

• Support the President in the overall operation of the Company and the execution of a robust strategic plan to grow and improve

• Co-develop a complete, cross-functional annual budget for the Company with account-level details

• Maintain chart of accounts, financial dimensions, and overall accounting hierarchy within Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system

• Calculate all accruals and reserves for financial statements

• Prepare and review journal entries monthly and more frequently as needed

• Conduct monthly GL account reconciliation activities

• Generate monthly financial statements (on a 4-4-5 calendar) with a 5-day close

• Ensure accounting records and financial statements are in compliance with GAAP

• Prepare monthly P&L and cash flow forecasts with analysis of actual performance relative to budget

• Prepare and present, with President & General Manager, relevant financial and operational updates to Home Office each month

• Draft/revise, implement, and enforce internal control policies and procedures under auspices of Home Office Finance guidelines

• Supervise all accounting functions to include accounts payable and receivable, fixed assets management, financial modeling, etc.

• Manage all treasury activities to include international and domestic wires, ACH, bank account sweeps, cash reconciliation, positive pay, etc.

• Ensure integrity of financial systems and databases, including through use of user-end instruction/training to employees, in conjunction with Information Technology team

• Serve as audit liaison for all audits (e.g., bank, borrowing base, 401(k), financial statements, etc.) and prepare all related deliverables

• Review weekly and biweekly payroll as prepared by Human Resources

• Review and prepare monthly sales tax returns as necessary

• Review and prepare annual franchise and property tax returns

• Facilitate and assist with design and implementation of ERP upgrade occurring within next 2 years

• Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications


• Experience in construction, distribution or related industries is required, door experience would be a plus.

• At least 2-4 years in a finance/accounting management role to include managing a team in a matrix organization. 

• Demonstrated leadership and team building skills.

• Strong cost accounting and financial reporting experience.

• Experience working for an organization in growth mode and/or merger & acquisition experience.

• Advanced user in Microsoft Office applications to include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams with the ability to learn other company computer applications as needed.

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting/business, or equivalent experience, with technical accounting knowledge.
