The Per Diem Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMT) will be engaged in a dynamic urology setting. NMT will administer radiopharmaceuticals intravenously under the direction of the nuclear medicine physician or authorized user by calculating, measuring and recording radiation dosage of radiopharmaceuticals received. The NMT will explain test procedures and safety precautions to patients and provide them with assistance during procedure and effectively communicate with patients and family members when necessary.

Essential Job Functions/Competencies

• Perform quality control checks on laboratory equipment or cameras. Ability to competently operate SPECT, diagnostic equipment.
• Provides images for data analysis and patient information for diagnostic interpretation when required.
• Evaluate images to determine the technical quality and calibration of instrumentation.
• Demonstrates competency in the performance of job-related skills appropriate to patient populations and departmental services.
• Provides diagnostic aid to physician by conducting organ or body scans on patients.
• Administers and records isotope dosage in accordance to established departmental protocol. Observes patient during procedure and reports any abnormal activity.
• Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures.
• Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
• Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision.
• Ensures that the correct radiopharmaceutical is used for the requested procedure, avoiding mis-administrations.
• Demonstrates competency in pre-procedural patient assessment, i.e., screening questionnaires, consents (when indicated), and exam verification.
• Demonstrates complete working knowledge of all Nuclear Medicine equipment within the department and performs all Nuclear Medicine procedures according to established department protocols.
• Mandatory to start IV in the patients.
• Type up reports. Proficient computer skills.
• Must be able to work in a busy and stressful environment.
• Must be empathic to patients and able to offer assistance to anxious or cognitively compromised patients during what can be a disorienting and stressful procedure.
• Additional responsibilities as deemed necessary by supervisor such as typing up nuclear reports and various billing/credential/preauthorization responsibilities.

 Certifications, Licensures or Registry Requirements

• CNMT - MRTBE certification
• ARRT - Nuclear Med or NMTCB
• Possess current CMEs
• BLS or ACLS Certifications

Educational Requirements
High school or equivalent
Experience Requirement

• One year of acute, clinical radiology experience is preferred.
• One year of experience as a nuclear medicine technologist required.
• Knowledge of Radiographic / Fluoroscopic equipment preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology is required.
• Graduate of a program accredited by JRCNMT or CAMRT.
• Current BCLS (AHA) required.
• Urology experience desired.

Minimal travel required.
