Job Summary:


The Administrative House Supervisor is a Registered Professional Nurse who assumes administrative responsibility for the management of all nursing service functions on his/her shift. In addition, in the absence of the Hospital Administrative staff, this responsibility is extended to all services within the hospital. Moves throughout Facility to monitor and correct and direct as needed nursing or, as an appropriate, hospital operations.


Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes appropriate judgment in placing patients in proper units according to diagnosis, principles of infection control and patient condition and age of patient.
  • Visits all patient care units to ascertain condition of patients, evaluate staffing needs and support to caregivers.
  • Administers the effective distribution and utilization of personnel employed during the respective shift, based on staffing patterns, patient acuity and recommendations of the unit’s Team Leader to meet patient care needs.
  • Provides direct patient care to assist staff when needed.
  • Participates actively and positively affects the outcomes of customer service activities and supports Patient Rights.
  • Follows Pharmacy direction for obtaining medications when the pharmacy is closed.
  • Provides effective communication between the medical staff, ancillary staff, nursing administration and the nursing staff.
  • Coordinates and evaluates services rendered between nursing and all departments during the respective shift and on an ongoing basis.
  • Understands, respects and displays sensitivity to culture, age and persons with disabilities, as well as maintains age-specific competencies.
  • Keeps the Chief Nursing Officer and Administrator informed regarding circumstances or situations which have or may have serious impact.
  • Follows standard precautions and transmission-based precautions as shown by consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment, as well as observes and enforces compliance among staff.
  • Assumes the duties as outlined in the Emergency Preparedness Plan during emergency situations as appropriate. Is knowledgeable of all emergency codes and understands his/her role in response to each.
  • Complies with all hospital safety and injury prevention policies and procedures. Eliminates or assists in eliminating any seen or known hazards in the workplace, as well as reports any unsafe conditions immediately to the CNO and/or Administrator/COO.
  • Initiates appropriate disciplinary actions concerning unusual occurrences regarding employees. Provides feedback to other department managers/directors regarding any performance concerns.
  • Informs administrative personnel appropriately of events, problems and needs within the hospital. Makes suggestions to improve services within the facility.
  • Promotes implementation of hospital policies and procedures and administrative decisions.
  • Supports staff in detecting and reporting medication errors and adverse drug reactions (ADRs) according to hospital policy.
  • Pronounces death in patients with DNR-CCA status as defined in ORC 4731-14-01-B.
  • Maintains knowledge of and complies with federal, state (ODH and OBN) and local laws as they apply to this position.
  • 20. Is knowledgeable and adheres to CMS and JCAH standards as they apply to this position.
  • 21. Understands the Continuous Quality Improvement Process, actively participates and can verbalize at least one departmental or hospital-wide improvement initiative using the Plan/Do/Check/Act (PDCA) process that has occurred within the last 12 months.
  • 22. Performs other duties as assigned or required.


Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Must have a current and valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of Ohio
  • BLS, ACLS required upon hire and maintain current.
  • PALS within 6 months of hire and maintain current.
  • Minimum of 3 years Med/Surg, Acute Care nursing experience.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Management experience preferred.
  • Training on CPI within 6 months of hire and maintain current preferred.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be highly motivated and willing to assume jobs and duties as assigned.
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization and analytical skills.
  • Strong computer skills to include Microsoft and database products.
